Default Vista & ATI Radeon X1950 PRO (Catalyst 7.3) graphics glitch

Having bought a new rig I was looking forward to playing SH3 again . However, there is an annoying black triangle flashing on the horizon I can't get rid of no matter the driver I'm using (previous versions are limited to 7.1 since I'm running Vista). The glitch is more visible if I enable the 16km atmosphere mod included in GWX 1.03, yet I get flashing traingles even if I use the standard 8km atmosphere, only they are smaller and located on the sky/around the sun.

Has anybody else experienced this? If the answer is yes, do you have any idea why (is it because of the video driver, is it related to DirectX 10 that comes with Vista) and whether there is a cure?

My (relevant) system specs:
Intel E6600 Core2 Duo 2.4 Ghz
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 PRO (256Mb DDR3)
2 Gb RAM (800 Mhz)
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Thank you in advance for your answers.
