What's wrong with my SH3 dvd?

A stupid accident cause me to uninstall SH 3 GWX 1.03 from my pc. Reinstalling should be an easy job, right? Wrong

First try, after I installed stock SH3 I tried to install GWX, but couldn't do it cause I forgot to install patch 1.4 first I then tried to install patch 1.4,. but got a message telling me that some file is not recognized. So I uninstall again, thinking that there might be something wrng when I installed it. But when the unsintall was in progress I remember that the cause may be because I forgot to remove all the SH3 files. So after unisntall, I went to /mydocuments and removed SH3 folder from there.

Second try, I install again. Then afterward I tried patch 1.4 ... again it didn't work. I tried all the versions, DVD EMEA, US, downloads EMEA, US none worked. So, I uninstall again Then I remember to look for hidden SH3 files. I found some files in programfiles/user or something, can't remember the directory and removed the files.

Third try, I install SH3 again. This time thing worked smoothly until the installation progress bar was full and there's a message saying something like "removing backup files" then it sorta stop. It didn't go to "Gameshadow" installation. The computer didn't "hang" but the installation progress just stop. Waited for 5 minutes then I ended the program. Tried to unistall again through programfiles/ubi/sh3/uninstall but I got a message saying that installation wasn't complete. So I removed it manually. Then tried to install it again.

It stopped again when the progress bar was full just like before The difference was, after 10 minutes of no progress, this time I tried to run SH3 when the installation process was still runnig. After a messaage saying about something is wrong, the programm ran. I went as far as the command room then I exited the game. When I exieted the progress bar was still at the same position.

Can anybody tell me what's wrong here? Is my dvd damaged?

edit: I have one career saved (had another 100 K patrol before this and hate to loose it ), but it's in different drive (D: while the SH3 is in C:, does it matter? Should I removed it?

its most likely a leftover from the original install
what has to be done is uninstall
then manually delete all leftover folders and components
on C drive offsite file should not effect it but when its uninstalled
take out all sh3 pertinent files left in ubi folder and possibly
my docs if you have sh4 installed and if you dont
have sh4 installed then just dump the whole ubi folder

this will probably clear the issue

then do reinstall patch and supermod

at that point if you have the room
make a back up copy of the data
file off drive while its clean and save
yourself the trouble in the future.
