Default Noob here... what mods should I get?

The list of mods.... is huge. No idea how to sort through them but i've been told by a friend that SH3 is a lot more fun with some of the mods.

I am not huge on realism.... as it makes the game harder and at present, I suck heh. Having fun, but not doing great.

So.... recommend me some mods? What mods would you recommend and what features do these mods have that make you recommend them?

Well if you are apprehensive about mods making the game too difficult for you before you get better then you could just get SH3 Commander. Its a seperate program that allows you to manage your profiles and create them from a seperate program. You can modify many options for the game here that are otherwise unchangeable in game and can even choose which type of sub and which month you want to start in.

It is true that GWX and NYGM both create significant changes towards realism. However you might want to also give the War Ace Campaign a look. Its pinned in the SH3 Mod Workshop. I've never played it myself but from what I've read it is basically an eye candy mod that gives you most of the pretty stuff thats been developed but it mostly doesn't change the stock game play dynamics.

I started playing SHIII at the beginning of this year, and I've never played the game without SH3 Commander and GWX. I would recommend these as the baseline set that fundamentally aren't just mods, but make SHIII a significantly better game.

Sev17; The first place to start is find out about SH3Commander and the rollback proceedure, and JSGME-mod enabler. There's a mod workshop in the forum maybe pan through some of the reads for mods your considering. GWX has its own installation, most of the other mods are jsgme ready.
GWX NYGM & WAC all enhance the game heavily. WAC is alot more then eye candy but does not change your bouyancy, renown or the ship id. NYGM changes your renown to a "tonnage war". Jazz like that.
If you try one of the supermods maybe make sure your machine can deal with it. All Im saying is after reading countless posts on sluggish graphics and such I bet 2 gigs vs 1 gig and the correct video driver would solve handling the heavier mods.

Get one of the super mods. GWX is my pick but you could go NYGM or TGW1.1a. Why not try them all? I know some of us have.
