Default An Amazing Moment

I was playing one of the shorter War Patrol missions.

I was headed up the west coast of Australia, on into the East Indies to intercept an IJN carrier fleet.

The weather got rough, the sea got rougher. The fog rolled in. And I heard the wind.

Late in the day with a setting sun, standing on the bridge, mesmerized by the sights and sounds of the vast ocean; I ordered an 'All Stop'.

Totally immersed by the experience, I simply had to stop and take it in.

The machinery silenced, and the most amazing wind sounds howled around my head. The waves crashed against my boat. The ocean undulated and changed colors from a deep blue to a frothy foamy white of the wave caps.

Through the ever shifting veil of fog the stars began to appear in the sky.

There I was, all alone out in the middle of the Indian Ocean, with some of the most amazing environmental effects ever seen in a game. I probably sat in front of my PC, just watching and listening for 20 minutes. It was breathtaking.

To my south lay my home port, now 3 days travel away. To the north, the front of my vessel was pointing to the adventure that lay ahead, and no doubt the desperate battle against the Imperial Japanese Navy.

One last look around, a quick nod to my crew, and an "All Ahead Full".

"Yes Sir".

It's like I was really there.

Thank you my Romanian friends. Stay the course.

Yes, the outside world created in this game is very well done!!!!

Hey, lets spend time complaining about the A key instead of playing .

Not this skipper.....he is going on patrol

I find the clouds very cool.

I believe complaining about the 'A' key is well in line and quite within the bounds of reason for anyone who put down money for this game. I mean, c'mon....

But, point taken, don't it (SH4) look real purty wif all dem fancified graphics and such?

I´ve tried to achieve this in SH3/4, but just can get the feeling! Maybe it´s just me, as TES: Morrowind is the only game that I´ve felt like really being there. Sitting on a beach at night, looking at the stars and listening to the nightlife in the background; priceless.

i dunno, i really still like GWX for immersiveness: watching a lone merchant take a hit, then slowly go under in rough weather, hearing the hull screech and stress as it goes into the deep and finally slips from view...eerie. i've had chills go up my spine hearing that...just...DREADING being in that situation (on the merchie, not the U-boat)

that kind of immersiveness can't have a price-tag put on it...
