No, sadly... my advice though is to look through the stickies in this forum, those will teach you alot more than the manual does, lol.

Among the older Silent Hunter fans here, it's been recognized that this manual (in SH4) is a nightmare for a newbie player. Really, it is.

Just make a short list of the top five things you are curious about knowing more (or learning quickly how) to do, and then just take your time asking the question in single threads (appropriately titled) in these forums. You'll get dozens of people helping you.

These excellent forums are the manual for the game.

I dont know where to start,I cant seem to get anything to work right..I cant get by the training part of the game.As an example in the navigation training I cant figure out how the map works, cant see myself etc..In torp training I cant figure anything out..I dont know how the crew works..So you see I'm compleatly lost, need to know it all..Think I made a big mistake and could have used the $50 someplace else and would not be this frustrated.....

Clay,

Play and replay. Mess with buttons, try different things. Basically this is how most get to know the game. Take it one step at a time. Once you get a grasp on it....it is a very immersive game. Do not give up because this forum will help where it can. Sail on man . It will all make sense after some time with it.

navigation training

Here I am, hopelessly lost. I keep going out there with my naigational training nad it is impossible for me to find the place to park the sub. All I do is to wander around the island or whatever it is. I feel like I'm drowning.
HELP

Ok when I got this game it was the first SH game I'd played as well and thing seemed 1. Glitchy and messed up and 2. confusing. Here's my tips on figuring out how to get where you need to go on the subschool navigation mission.

1. Click on the Navigation Map Tab. (It looks like a compass, the one you used in geometry class not the one for boyscouts.) It should be the second tab on the bottom left. F3 is the keyboard shortcut. Clicking the first sub(heh)tab, the bottom most row-far left will bring up the Navigation Map.
2. You can use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out. or the Tab key.(I think tab just zooms in.)
3. The area you need to navigate to is represented by a Gold Star on the map. For me it was always located on the north side of the island you start at. Simply navigate into the area covered by the star.
4. Easiest way to do the above may be to click on the >...+ button at the bottom of the screen and insert waypoints that your nav officer will automatically follow. CTRL + Left Click will also set waypoints.
