Crew Arrows

I'm on my second patrol and noticed some of my crew has an arrow symbol pointing up. This is in addition to their specialty symbol. Is this an indication that they are promotable next time I'm in port?

It's an indication that they have been promoted in one of the 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 ranks. The promotion between these 4 categories is restricted to in-base, at players choice.

Ah, thank you. This had been bugging me!

That explains why I was seeing crew promotions while out at sea but couldn't promote them bacl at base even though I had promotions available... they hadn't reached the next catagory yet.
