Default I think using the snorkel may spawn more planes?

I first wrote about it at the Ubi forums since I am more active there then they gave me the idea to bring it here since I use GWX. 1.02

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...3/m/9451084445

Anyway I did a test and found that planes intercepted me a great deal more when using the snorkel, here is what I wrote there :

Quote:
Hi ya all. My Snorkel woes continue, so I decided to do a test.

Just on the edge of the eastern side of the Allied air cover around Britain I tested this.

With snorkel up moving underwater at 6 knots I made it an average out of 10 sightings of 5 km between airplane sightings with my snorkel radar.

On the surface moving 6 knots, I made it an average of !22! km between plane sightings out of 10 sightings.

Why the heck does using the snorkel make allied air cover thicker? It seems like a fairly substantial bug in the game. I understand the planes being able to spot the snorkel and see it with the latest fanciest radar, but if I have it up or not should not affect how many planes are in the sky :P

I managed to end all my XXI woes by just surfacing to recharge the battery instead of snorkeling.

I'de love any input anyone has on this Thank you

If you are not using a snorkel I assume you are submerged
If so you wont see aircraft

while using a snorkel it is detectable by aircraft radar so you will see more of them

Maybe I wasn't clearly explaining.

I was using the GWX radar on snorkel mod to test this with the XXI, so I can see them while snorkling.

Your 2nd point makes no sense. Very few planes have the .3 radar that can detect the snorkel, but almost all the planes can detect the surfaced uboat. Not to mention the surfaced boat is far easier to detect than the itty bitty .5 meter high snorkel.

Don't worry about it, your post is perfectly clear

However I have no input to offer to you except for two things:

1) It was a very well known bug in SHIII stock that having the snorkel up made you just as detectable as having the whole sub surfaced . Of course, as you have already said, you are using GWX (same here), but still, I don't know if GWX addresses this issue or if we're all still inheriting this bug from the underlying SHIII stock game.

2) About your test: you shouldn't jump to conclusions yet. 10 sightings (each) isn't a lot in the realm of statistics... continue on with the tests and see if the observed trend holds up after.... 50 sightings for each test? :hmm:

Unfortunately, I can't help much more than that, since I play dead is dead from the start of the war, so I've never managed to get my hands on a XXI .

I do DiD too , but start my next career where the last one died in the war. So I eventualy made it on the 8th career to the XXI.. it was a major disapointment :P I ended up going back to my IXD2 so I could play duck hunt with the planes instead of hiding every few minutes which made travel very boring :P

Several years ago when I played the stock game (pre-Grey Wolves), I remember someone coming out with several fixes in the sensor.cfg file. One of them was to increase the radar height from the stock .5-meter to 1-meter to decrease radar detection.

Rubini just did a visual/hydrophone workaround with changes to these files. Maybe he or someone else could shed some light on this radar detection stuff.

I would be curious to see if that made it into GWX or not.

If it were a matter of radar though I would be detected just as much on the surface and more. Especialy since I use the snokrel fix by Jungman that limits the minheight of visual detecting to 1 meter. So they can only detect the snorkel in theory with the last 2 rare ASW types.

Maybe the overall height of the uboat whether underwater or not controls the amount of planes likely to spawn?

GWX indeed fixed this bug.
