Default How do I change my conning tower?

The subsystems area you can only change the deck hardware. Dose anyone know how to change your conning tower type? Its 1943 and I still have a pre-war tower!

I'm beginning to suspect it's a missing feature. I can't seem to get any chances of upgrading my conning twoer either. Nor am I getting any offers for new boats to command.

Can anyone else confirm this??

If so it's a major issue here!

This would really stink!

I've been offered and recieved a Gato in 1942, but it looks exactly the same as the Tambor. Also, none of the upgrades I add to it seem to take effect.....and if they do it is random and doesn't last. lol

Hmm... Not good. Ah well, there's always a patch to look forward to.

This is all by design, In SHIII being able to buy your next u-boat and chuck on any & every conning tower was quite gamey.

The approach that you receive your new commissioned submarine based upon how successful/lucky you have been etc is a great step in the right direction of a simulation with a role playing aspect.

As can be expected, a new submarine may or may not have all the latest gadgets, again, I like this as it will certainly make you pause and think about if you should trade in the old and faithful for the new and shiny :rotfl:

Another of the new features in this area is that when a new upgrade is available and you do not get it based upon chance, you can of course use your renown to attain it. But the cool part is that after a certain period of time the now not so new upgrade is available free of any renown cost.

This I think is a great improvement as it makes renown, which is attained through success, feel like you have influence. While the new system also allows a not so successful commander to also attain all the upgrades that were available just that he has to wait longer.

The early war Gato sails looked very similar to the Tambors (and others). This lasted through most of 42 and into 43. They were only upgraded when they went for major overhauls at Mare Island (for instance).

This is one area of the game I don't have a problem with.

If that's the case I'm fine with it too. I just didn't realize it quite so long to get the boats modified as it apparently did. Good to hear the trimmed conning towers are actually in the game.

I don't think that's it. The fact is, I've got a lot of renown, am easily the highest scoring captain in the fleet, have recieved metals after every patrol, and generally been one terrible SOB for the Japanese. I've had the Drum (Gato) since it came out (It said I was the first in line for a new sub) but it's always had the old conning tower. It's now November 1942 and I still haven't seen a new tower.

I did recieve a new tower when I had my Gar class prior to recieving the Gato, but have since not gotten the new tower. Considering I'm the first in line for a new boat and all the other jazz, this simply doesn't track. I think there's something up with the towers that is not a "feature".

Don't feel bad about it, I started in March '43 with the USS Herring (SS 233, Gato class) and now I'm in July '43 and still have my old conning tower. I think that you only get a new tower when your boat is scheduled for a longer refit. I suppose if you stick long enough to your Gato you will get a new tower. As a side note: The cut-down tower we've seen before the release are vailable in '44 it seems.
