Default Anything the VIIC/41 or 42 subs have better?

I've never actually gotten these. Before GWX, I had a career that lasted all the way to '44 with a type VIIC- pimped out electronics, U-flak, the whole nine yards. I gave up because I just wasn't skilled enough to survive all those little British terrors combing the North Sea/atlantic (it got to the point, somewhat realistically, where I'd get a safe opportunity to sink ONE ship, spot maybe 3 but be too dangerous to engage (there was like a canopy of aircraft, I swear) and have to head home bringing in ~5,000 tons a patrol.

I have GWX, and I know that means more challenges. However, I am kind of curious if it is worth getting the /41 or /42 subs. The problem is that if you buy a new sub, you have to re-buy ALL the upgrades for it, which costs a ton of renown. It forces you to make a hard decision- keep a rapidly outdated model stock to save for a better one, or upgrade your sub as you go along?

I changed to a VIIC/42 in early 44 and I just love it. In my last mission, I shot down 22 planes, plus sunk some ships.

Oh, I'm playing SH3, wanna finish the war with SH3 before going to GWX.

The mod built by Cobalt can dive to 250+ metres

So what is the big difference? Is it diving depth?

I believe that he was able to get the thing down below 400 before it crushed.

The deeper your sub cvan go = more chance of evading depth charges and getting beneath a thermocline.

The VIIC/41 was pretty much the same as the VIIC, the only real difference was that the 41 had a stronger hull, which if I recall was 2.5mm thicker than the VIIC's which allowed them to safely dive deeper than the VIIC could. In order to compensate for the extra steel in their hulls, the 41's were made with lighter machinery inside. The 41 also had a slightly modified bow to help them out on the surface, ie it was a bit larger up front.

The VIIC/42 was designed, but was never built because they wanted to concentrate on the XXI's. The cool thing about the 42's was they had stronger pressure hulls again, and, they were designed to carry 16 torpedoes, as oppose to the VIIC and 41's 14 torpedoes.

Yeah, the 42's 16 torpedoes are a real treat compared to the older type's puny 16 torpedoes.

Love the sig, BTW.

And since the ASDIC has a limited range you can theoretically get underneath it. Theoretically, if you live long enough to get that deep.
