I'm not sure if it's true but I've heard the the binoculars mean that you have to patrol the are for 14 days which sucks if it's true.

I don't know the exact time you have to patrol the area, I think it varies. You don't have to stay on the star to complete the objective. Just keep patrolling in the vicinity and it will eventually grey out on ComSubPac is satisfied.

I had that too....after spending a considerable amount of time patrolling the Marshall Islands, the star with binoculars becomes gray, meaning that you completed the objective.

Like I said: it took a considerable amount of time, but I don't think it was as long as 14 days.

BdU was much more easy-going in that regard....24 hrs and you're done....

Anyway , thank God for time compression!

Star with binoculars off Japan my 1st mission, left PH 10th Dec 41 got on station (star) 27th Dec. Patrolled up and down the island sinking a total of 12 ships for 36,500tn and shot down 2 planes ( though sinking anything won't speed up the change of colour of the star).

The star changed colour to indicate that my mission was complete about the 11th of Jan 42, so it took 14 days of patrolling to change that star, it does not matter if you sink ships or not. I ran out of all torps and shells days before the star changed to grey.

My hope was to have a random time for patrolling . Maybe this is implemented ?

Nice to see that they added in realistic patrols. In rl you were ordered to patrol a specific area...you were not allowed to "freelance". That way it makes sure that you keep "blue on blue" incidents to a minimum.
