Default Silent Hunter 4 UI overhaul needed

I know I can't do this, because of the vast number of skills needed, but I was wondering if there was any interest in basically porting over the UI from SH3 to SH4.

Right now, this is the biggest problem of SH4; they took a useable and highly streamlined yet powerful interface and tossed it out for a klunky interface.

I actually join very much of this new UI. It is hmm... "refreshing" after nearly two years (with the mod changes of course) looking at the sh3 UI.

And what comes to the "message box" in sh4 UI, I was able to move/fit it above the fuel/battery/air/co2 cauge, after I raised the resolution in the game. So it won't be hanging above the screen anymore. It sure was annoying there (like in your screenshot's).

I personally greatly prefer the SHIV UI to SHIII, though some modding would make it even better.

I'm not sure what it is you don't like about SHIV's. In fact I find this to be one of the areas of biggest improvement in the game. It gets in the way far less than SHIIIs and is easy to customize to your liking. And the map puts SHIIIs to shame :hmm:

Would it be possible to change the size or the legibility of the text messages? I'm having a problem reading them. I've tried changing the monitor resolution and the game resolution but neither seems to help. I have a 20" LCD monitor running at 1280x1024, 2 ft away.

While the map is massively improved and now features names on it (yay, an idea I came up with now in the game!), virtually everything else is a detraction from SH3.

Link to thread I made about the SH3 vs SH4 UI

But the most damning is restoring a stupid design decision which was actually FIXED in a SH3 patch; having to individually click for status reports:

'been pretty much a fanboy of sh3 since day one, but i've gotta say that i actually prefer sh4's ui to sh3's...
maybe, as others have suggested, i'm just suffering ennui from the years now (oh my!) with sh3's, but there it is.
which all is emphatically not to say don't go for it--by all means take a stab at improving it! but i personally, for whatever very little it's worth, wouldn't be so interested in just a direct port of the ui from sh3 to sh4.

If theres a file similar to SH3's 1024_768.ini file, then there are alot of possiblities.

I was just looking into the ability to mod stuff with the navigation map page, and I was comparing the menu_1024_768.ini files from SH4 and SH3, and it appears the information for the dropdown tool menu from SH3 is already included in the SH4 menu_1024_768.ini file.

I will attempt to get it working in SH4, will let you know if I find out anything

At the moment I prefer the UI for SH3, but to be fair it's probably because I'm just not used to the SH4 UI since I got the game only yesterday...

However...I still feel some improvements on the SH4 UI could be made, and I for one would like to see a mod for this.
