Hello sub gang
After reading a lot of posts and looking at some scrennys I have come to the conclusion of not getting silent hunter 4 wolf of the pacific. At least not yet allthough its quite early to decide theres just too much missing -change isn't always a good thing . To me it looks like Ubi went for eye candy and blew off imersion, Which is fine for some but not me at least until I happen to see sh4 for 10$ down the road somewhere. all in all you just can't beat the German U boat what I hope is that multi player makes up the diffence but make your own decisions wheather to spend 50$ on sh4 or not |

![]() Let's hope Ubi get a patch out quickly (where have we heard that before?) - although, even if they do, it'll still be the selfless efforts of the modders that will eventually make the game worthwhile, and that is a very poor reflection on Ubi yet again. r. |

I think it's rather petty to stay away from it. I judge it by the entertainment value. Right now I already got a ton of entertainment value out of SHIV - and that was only one day of playing!
It's not everything I might want it to be, but $50 for what looks to be hundreds of hours - sign me up! I remember doing the math and finding out that in the first year of SHIII, before all the cool mods that fixed most of it really came out for it, I spent 500 hours playing the game. 500 divided by $50 - you do the math. And as I think SHIV out-of-the-box is much better than vanilla SHIII - I can see that value only improving. |

I understand the point you're making, but it's the 'eye candy' that will attract the 97 percent of purchasers who are not members of Forums like this and who will probably never patch or mod the game.
Ubisoft have tried to strike a balance that will offer a game that gives enough for us and for the casual gamer to enjoy. They may not have got it right according to some here who already have the game, but a couple of patches and some mods will turn SH4 from a good game into a great game. The continuation of the Silent Hunter series depends on mass sales and not on us. That doesn't mean that I don't agree with some of the more rational, critical opinions expressed here. There are some very smart and knowledgeable members here and I understand your frustration, but the way to guarantee the continuation and improvement of this series isn't to refuse to buy this game. |

The more we buy buggy games the more releases that way there will be There is no incentive for a developer to get it right first time with the hovering " threat " that if we dont buy it there wont be any more The way to achieve mass sales is to release a product everybody wants that works Not one that requires a multitude of patches and modders to make it so My 2 cents Carry on |

Getting it, there are a lot worse things to spend $50.00 on, plus it will improve via patches and modding

I recently discovered that I have no credit or debit account, and I can't order it. That said, I will still buy it from a store as soon as I can.
This sounds exactly like the complaints about SHIII, and I thoroughly enjoyed that one, warts and all. The patches and mods made it worlds better, but I still had a great time until then. I'm sure SH4 will be the same.

you should get it.
bugs seem system dependant , i have fully 3d crew members and working sound for the most part. some things like "were taking damage" and "passing crush depth" are missing perhaps they never programmed them but they are two that should have audio i think. handfull of bugs wont ruin the game.SHIII was mainly at first pointless due to the lack of targets, and terribly dull harbours. those two are fixed out the box this time around. tho i have yet to visit a jap harbour, the US ones are full of ships. and its not uncommon to see two huge task forces go at it, i watched a IJN convoy go head on with a USN task force today. didnt fire asingle shot, just watched. that was rare enough to be labled myth in SHIII it has some problems, none that should put you off though. |

There were and still are people who thing SHIII is the worst game ever :p |

Im gonna buy the game as soon as its released here in brazil.
Maybe next year. ![]() But i´d buy it right away, if i could. I´m sure a patch will come out some time, and fix most of it. I´m tired of hundreds of new releases ARCADE STYLE that i dont play for more than 20 minutes. Well i know we are consumers, and should save our $, but if we all wait for it to cost 10$ kiss subsims goodbye. After Sept. 11th attacks, it´s clear that we wont have realistic (or nearit) simulators (as helicopters, jets). I played A LOT of USAF (Jane´s), but now all we see is games for 12 year old. While the patch won´t come out i´ll read the manuals... lol ![]() |

One thing I love about EB Games is their policy whereby I can buy a game at premium at release - in this case it's $99 in Australia, or $US79 at current exchange rates - and return it within one week for a complete credit.
That way I get to assess how well the game is done, and how enjoyable I find it, then can return it for no cost whatsoever to me. I then use the credit for another game, or I just hang onto it. I've done this 3-4 times in a row in some cases until I find something I'll keep. It's the PERFECT answer to defeating the "we released something that really isn't polished the way something for which we want $99 from you should be" scenario so common with ALL games, not just UBI. I bought SHIII for $19, installed NYGM and never played vanilla. Thus I got it cheaply AND it's been a terrific experience from day 1. UBI didn't get my premium $$ - I learned my lesson from SHII, thanks! - and I got SHIII after it had been 'fixed'. That's what I'll do this time around. Play intensively for a week and decide if it's something I'll enjoy until it's "fixed". As for the argument things should be done properly, my personal experience from years of doing business contracting work for large companies (that's what I do IRL) is that it very rarely happens. Most typical is something that's about 80% if you're lucky. Frankly, that's because most people in life - certainly at work, at least - really can't be bothered to do all the extra, painstaking things required to get to 95%, especially if there doesn't seem to be the $$ reward for doing so. It's a simple fact that society's obsession with making as much $$ as possible is an inevitable enemy of really high quality work, unless the nature of the work demands that level of quality to make ANY $$ (e.g. building aircraft is a good example!). So we shouldn't be surprised that things get done half-arsed, as most of us would find that's the case in 99% of enterprises around the world, including where most of us work. Enough philosophy!! |

Hmmmm........$50.00 for beer or $50.00 for game.
Beer: Get super drunk. Possibly blow cookies from over drinking. Liver damage. Uninate most of it in the bathroom. Feel like hell in the morning. Broke and head hurting. SH4: Years of enjoyment. Keeps me out of trouble. Can always take back to EB Games if it really stinks. Look forward to mods upon mods for it. Look forward to forums and the other folks on the forums. My wife knows were I am at all times. Yep, made my purchase of the game. It has better returns than the beer. ![]()

Yes sh4. but i don´t rush to the selves looking for a copy.
![]() usually i wait for the first path and mods before play a serious career , when big bugs are fixed. Also if i have to do an hardware upgrade it cost less money. when sh3 was released i not played it until 1.3 patch using some mods,
