I know in WW2, the sub captains estimated AOB. Are you speaking of a tool like the Stadimeter station in Dangerous Waters?
sorry, I wish I could help more.

Dunno..

I usually noted numerous locations over a few minutes to get their heading, lined up a shot ahead of the target and measured the AoB from where it would be sitting when I fire.

Start doing AOB with cars and stuff. That's what Richard O'Kane did.

Don't recall that, where did you see it? What he did as far as I know was have someone make a lazy susan type device upon which was affixed a ship model with graduated AoB markings on the base. He then sat and and looked at that model through his binocluars and practiced estimating the AoB as another crewman turned the model.

And yes, US skippers 'called' the AoB, meaning estimated by visual observation. That's what I always did in SH3, so am ready to do so in SH4.

An easy way to do it is to think of yourself on the bridge of the target, looking at the sub. What angle off the bow is the sub? That is the AoB.
