From the previews I have seen, it looks a bit heavy on the CGI stuff.

Don't look for too much historical authenticity. Most of the soldiers look like they're wearing speedos instead of armour. All of the Persians sound like James Earl Jones doing his Darth Vader bit.

I agree, I would not expect too much historical accuracy from a film,,,just entertainment

I haven't seen the movie but I don't really expect historical authenticity. Unfortunatelly Hollywood has something against history and cannot make an historical accurate movie. The worst of them in my opinion was Troy by the way.

Well, the Spartans would have fought entirely in the nude, so I am not sure about how much historical accuracy I would be seeking in this case. Anyway, as I understand it, this is based on a comic book series. As such, the director would probably hold true to the fantasy elements found therein.

Typical CGI Hollywood film which will have over the top CGI along with dull acting and a basic or no real story line.

As a film critic once said, "A film for the brain dead or people who do not want to think too much."

It's hardly "typical Hollywood". It's less of a comic adaptation than each panel being represented on screen, with the in-betwen action filled in. It looks the way it does because of the comic's colour and style. Very much like Sin City, which is also based on Frank Miller's work. CGI is used because it gives the closest possible approximation to the look and feel of the comic

Actually ancient Greeks used to wear armour in their battles. They had a number of light armed troops called πελτασταί that were used to probe the enemy lines. They were using slings and light spears and were not wearing armour. The "normal" troops called Hoplites (ὁπλίτης) were heavily armed with breastplates, helmets and greaves. The Spartan especially were particularly heavily armed and were famous for thier scarlet cloaks.
