Default the end is nigh? *spelling

So, when it comes to avoiding DC attacks in SH, I come here, to make stupid new posts and reply to other peoples - much more relative - posts.

Currently being DCd by 2 Black Swan thingies...

Tried every tactic I know of (not many, granted) so now I'm just going round in circles and changing depth till they run out of ammo.

Anyone got a more effective method of not dying? It's August 1941 btw, and I just got my new Uber Anti-Sonar paint... I'm getting a refund.

You must admit, it's a rather clever sales strategy to offer a money-back guarantee on a product that if it fails, kills you.

Don't have to pay out much money in returns.

lmao, fair point

It's ok. I got sunk.

DC landed on the stern torp room and I flooded in seconds...

I'll try a VII, getting caught in an IX isn't doing me any favours

How deep are you diving? and what mods are you using?

You may be able to get your sub down to a good 200 - 220 meters depth.. a bit of a gamble, just watch for the signs that she is not going to take it and get back up to about 150 Meters as quickly as you can.

These boats are either pinging or they are listening... not both at the same time in my experience, so try to rig the ship for silent running and set your knot meter to 1 knot, this will keep the engine RPM as low as possible without stopping the engines and your boat will make like a hole in the water.

aside from sneaking beneath a thermal layer, going deep, deploying decoys and staying quiet there really is not much to do about active sonar. sounds like your doing ok as long as your lungs draw air and not sea water.

When you hear the engines above you go to flank speed and splashes, come right about 45 degrees to a new heading and increase to flank speed but only for long enough to make the turn.

If your near a convoy, try to maneuver to a point beneath the convoy, this will give the DDs obstacles to steer around to get to you and will buy you time to get away.

aside from all that - just hang in there.

Good luck!

Using GWX 1.02 only, diving to 100meters, sometimes 150>180 depending on how accurate the DCs are.

My tactic of old was flawless, I never got caught underwater pre41.

Attack from the middle of the convoy, positioning myself between 2 lines of ships, fire all my torpedos, dive to 150m and slip away.

Now I'm being caught on almost every attack, I'm pretty sure that the S Class sub on escort detected me this time, I didn't even think he'd be able to - shows my ignorance

Good tip on the ahead flank maneuvers, something to try I think, as not alot else is working

Deeper chief indeed

I have taken a couple of VIIs down to 240 meters, she creaked and groaned and pissed and moaned about it, but it held together and we lived to fight another day.

I rarely folow convoys or ships into water shallower than 100 meters.

if your only going as deep as 100 meters your right in the sonar sweet spot.

my tactic is to get in as close as i can to the convoy, fire off a 2 shot spread at the 2 largest ships then fire at whatever happens to be behind me with a stern shot. fire at the furthest target first, closest target last, dont stick around to see the shots hit anything, just lower the scope, launch a decoy of you have it and go deep and change direction. Put the convoy on your arse end and get outta dodge. you can hear the hits without even using the hydrophones usually. make "run silent run deep" mean something.

"shadow" the convoy. Stay abeam the convoy just beyond visual range, move at high speed on the surface if you can and get out in front of them. go to periscope depth occasionally so you can track them "over the horizon". keep this going until the sun goes down again if time is on your side, when the sun sets, move in and repeat the process all over again. use your shadow time to reload and bring in the external stores if you must.

tonnage will add up but it may take a few days.

but when the escorts hunt you, go deep... 200 meters is not impossible.

Remember if there are two or more destroyers, only one is usually pinging - the rest are listening. If you gun it under ping you'll be picked up.

As for depth, I did two full days at 205 meters in a IXB without an issue (through Gibraltar.) If the glass ain't breaking, you've still got some depth left. This assumes, of course, you don't have any hull damage.

And that's in your log.

Show that to Bdu and they will send you to the funny farm.
