No radio room. There is radar in the conning tower however.

Default No. There are just 2 compartments

There are no separate cabins or compartments. The sonar and radar units are in the control room and conning tower. We do not know if they are modeled stations, like the Navigator and Weapons Officer stations in SH3. From the screen shots, it may just be that you go to the instrument by using the free roam camera and click it to call up the instrument's screen. There are just the 2 compartments, conning tower and control room. Those 2 are much larger and modeled in more detail than the respective ones in SH3.

Yeh, but it was still a pleasure to go and lie down on the Kaleuns bed and listen to the gramphone while the boat are dashing through the Channel. Even with more detaila dn bigger spaces, we'll feel some kind of emptyness.

Default I know, we lose the sense of being in the boat.

I think so too, Respenus. It's a sub after all, and we will spent most of our time in the boat, not on the bridge of Yamato. Ubisoft seems convinced that anti-aircraft guns are more important than torpedos in promoting and selling the game. I'm concerned that they may have degraded our subs a bit to enhance the surface and air battles.

Of course you can. Wouldn't be a good sub sim otherwise.

Yes, I to will be playing SHIV but a Sub with out a radio room, I bet in six months SHIII still will be the game folks will be playing the most, U-Boats and German
Terpedoes are the Best!! It will be to easy to sink Jap ships, not made
as good as US or British ships.

Not having a radio room has nothing to do with how sucessful or not SHIV will be. Plus you contradict yourself saying German topredos are the best and Japn. ships were easier to sink. German torpedos had problems at the start of the war, plus I would not underestimate IJN escorts too much. They were much less prepared for anti-sub warfare than the USN or RN but they could be dangerous.

Look at these two threads from the UBI SHIII forum, very interesting.

Great reads!

Though I agree that not having a radio room has little to do with the success of SHIV, it lends to the imersion of the game and the patrol in general. Ultra messages sent to our subs to extend the scope of their patrol or to add on a mission etc. were of course received in the radio room. I think those of us who wish to have seen a least a few more compartments other than the control room and conning tower - both an intergal part of the sub especially when at battle stations - had hoped to find a few more compartments that lent to the "feel" of being part of the crew and sub on patrol. I for one - as I have mentioned in other threads related to this issue - would have forgone the external camera views of seeing the holes in ships I have hit or seeing them sink below the surface or seeing what I call the "birds eye view" of the battle scene and opted for more interior interaction. Not to say that better graphics were needed as to the skurface ships and the "reaction" those ships and their crews had when torpedoed and sinking. However.....

Recieving an Ultra message in the radio room and as Captain being called to get the message - which maybe my radio operator actually had to copy - then taking that message to my stateroom opening my safe and actually decodeing the message - then calling for my senior officers to meet me in the wardroom where we actually go over charts to determain the best course to follow and tactics to use to follow the Ultra message from COMSUBPAC.

The game is going to be great. But I think there is a huge pro and con as to what the game will actually have and how successful it will make the game vs what it may not have and what success and functunality - as another member recently described it as - those "wishes" would make the game play vs the great "camera views" it will have.

All in all can't wait for the game to "surface".

Happy Hunting
