Default Finished my 5th patrol

Finished my 5th patrol last night on type VII B, 82% realism setting

I'm with 2d Flotila and I was assigned to grid DH 77, but I never got there... When I reached gulf of Biscay I decided to return to base, cause I was worried about the fuel and I only have 5 torps left, 2 bow torps and 3 stern torps.

On the way back I didn't get any contact, so I still have 5 torps left when I arrived at Wilhelmshaven. It's because I was in a hurry, I just wanted to finish the patrol asap. It's past 1 am and I have to go to work at 7.30

I found out that I can sink a Large Merchant with only one torp if I aim for the bow. I always fire two torps at big tonnage ships. One aim at the bow and the second one at the smoke stack or behind it.

Last night when intercepting a convoy, I fired two torps at one Large Merchants... Pistol impact, depth set at 4 m ... and then followed by two more torps at the second Large Merchant behind the first one. I wasted two torps, because after the first torp hit the bow, both ships exploded and sank.

I also found out that fuel consumption is better if I set the engine telegraph at Ahead Slow and then set the speed at 6 or 7 knot.

Total tonnage 75 k something, renown collected so far is about 7600 renown. I can upgrade my boat to type IXB now, but I'm still about 400 renown short for a promotion to Kapitant Leutnant. So I'll wait until after the promotion and then upgrade to type IXB.

I'm going to increase the realism setting a bit by disabling the WO assistance, or enable the realistic ship sinking time .. or maybe both, but i'll leave the "manual targeting" on ... for a little longer.

I'm positive that I'll be promoted to Kaleun and get the type IXB after my 6th patrol

They stripped me of my promotion when I got my IXB - something to do with my renown dropping below some minimum level. So you might as well go ahead and get the new boat now. She's slow to settle, but lots of fish and lots of fuel.

Take a trip down to Freetown and have some fun!

Thanks Rykaird. I didn't know that. My previous career, I had 8000 renown and was promoted to Kaleun, then after the promotion before I left the base I ugrade to type IXB.

Of course, that was my first and last patrol as a Kapitant Leutnant on a type IX B so I didn't know there's a posibility of a demotion.

My careers always experience their peak in a VII and their end in a IX. I know there are ways to survive in that thing, but I consider it a coffin all the same. My seamen take out life insurance when I start eyeing tose extea tubes.

I finished the 5th also, threw up and passed out. Now I'm hung over and attempting to sober up!

J/K good job
