Default Attack on Darwin commemorated

The 65th anniversary of the heaviest and most deadly Japanese air raid on Australian soil took place today 19th Feb in Darwin:

Quite a few places got hit with air raids up north. It helped the Government create the highway between Adeliade and Darwin. Before that the road treck was something out of a nightmare!!

Also the 62nd anniversary of the US Marines invasion of Iwo Jima. 36 days later, over 6800 of them had died in conquering the island and Japan was on its last leg prior to defeat and surrender.

Never underestimate the media's ability to make connections where none exist.

I gotta admit to being disappointed to see some of the editorial crap creeping into what should have been a straightforward memorial story.
