I'm looking forward to it too, although it's definitely not a sim, it looks fantastic and judging by the response to the xbox 360 demo from the forums it plays great too.

It reminds me most of the old Carrier Command title back in the Amiga days. A mix of strategy and action where you can control all the units. Multiplayer games should really rock!

Being a mainstream title this may hopefully encourage more gamers to "dip their toe in the water" with more hardcore stuff like SH4 and PT-boats.

I hear the PC demo should be up at 3pm GMT tomorrow (Friday Jan 26th).

You are typically in command of a whole fleet so individual unit controls are limited and more action oriented check out the videos over at http://www.battlestations.net/media/movies/ to get an idea of how things work. There's also a good devteam interview at http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=151833

I am currently playing Battlestation Midway on Xbox 360 (and also SH3 on PC.)

Battlestations is a good game but really it so watered down (no pun!) when you are used to a huge area and choices it's difficult to be restricted in an area with a single objective...having said that, for a console it's refreshing.

The game "cuts away" when you sink a ship? is it just me...I wanna watch what happens. No replay at all to watch anything, kinda frustrating.

I like that they have people on deck but no-ones around when it sinks...meh!

I want SH4, I cannot believe they put all these little details in it. I am one of those who loves a living world game. Whether it's SH4 ot IL-Sturmovik or whatever...I find it much more engrossing seeing activity around.

QUESTION: Has anyone seen a screenshot of guys in a lifeboat in SH4? I can't find any info, just wondering how they are going to do it.

Sounds like the game I have wanted for 20 years!!!

Cheers SubDudes !

I wanted to take Battlestation Midway for a spin, but I was never able to connect to an internet server (yes, I was using a valid GameSpy account). From the reviews I've read since the launch, really doesn't seem like I'm missing a whole lot anyway. Still, it looks like a fun game. I tried to set up a server, but unfortunately you need at least two people to connect for it to start. Perhaps they'll release an SP demo at a later date.

Just trying it out now.

A bit arcade like and I looked into the files and they did not show modding promise.

I would want to take it back but I have yet to try the multiplayer which will see if the game is as good as it says.

I believe It just needs more maps and more single player content.

Judging from the initial feedback on their forums, it's been somewhat of a choppy start. Mind you, many people post to vent, so take it with a grain of salt.

It's nothing to be taken seriously. Unit control is limited to very simlified controls. It's fun to play around with, the graphics are nice, but all in all not worth getting.
It feels like playing with little models.

It's a nice break from the die-hard sims..

But come on, a Gato doing 25 knots underwater? Who stuffed rocketmotors in its rear tubes?

The eye-candy is well worth it, ships and planes look authentic though don't expect realism here either. Shooting the guns is simply mouse over a target and hit the left mouse button, range is calculated automatically.

This said doesn't mean there's a fun factor in the game, on the contrary, I found it entertaining enough that I completed the US campaign. (nice little backstory as well mind you).

I think the game comes in its own during multiplayer matches where the 2 teams can get into each others hair by launching a good mix of planes and ships to take down the enemy flatop. Haven't tried that yet but will do in the near future.

Okay, I'm taking one for the team, and I caved it and bought it. I mainly wanted to compare it to Pacific Storm. I bought the walmart special edition, which is a large poster of the cover AND on the backside, 12, yes 12 pin-up calendar girls (1940's USO style)...oh that's right, I'm talking about the game and not the....poster. Plus the chick on the cd....

My first impressions are , but in all fairness, I need to play it more. The graphics are nice .

More to come...

I've also bought the game I think its a pretty nice naval action strategy/mix, certainally not a sim, but still a good game. Four things in my opinion let it down a bit...

The maps are a bit too small meaning there is not enough time for fleet orgamisation/ tactical planning

Short Campaign: I made the mistake of playing at rookie level and completed the single player campaign in only 5 hours... make sure you play at veteran level to make the sp game last longer!

Lack of bots in MP games you can't play against the computer in MP games.

Bungled MP game tech: Eidos made the mistake of using Gamespy as a provider and also the game is difficult to get working in MP iof you have a router, although Eidos are making a patch to solve this issue.

In some ways it's similar to BF 1942 except you are in control of a whole fleet rather than one solitary unit.

The game at the time of writing is no 1 in the all format UK chart which is good news as hopefully it means that more people will be switched on to naval gaming. SH4 may get an additional sales boost as a result and hopefully developers may actually consider making more naval titles.

Are ya'll talking PC or console?

Fifty dollars is a lot of money to me and I don't have a console ...

My son does though, but still I prefer PC ...

I could buy two Sh4's for lan with my children instead of (1) SH4 and one Midway is what I am thinking
