Default Question about this image

http://tinyurl.com/yvz697

Does anyone know if this is an in game shot? I understand noone has played the game yet, but I wasn't sure if anyone learned anything about the in game graphics from any interviews.

The way the surface looks from below is amazing. I'm curious if it's actually going to look like that.

Thanks.

I believe the models are the game's, but no, by the looks of it this is concept art. It's not that far off though!

I think the bubbles have been photoshopped in, as they're only in some screenshots and not in any of the videos, even the later ones.

But yes, the water, models and lighting should all be in-game.

Default seems you're wrong

in light of the SH4 preview, it seems this screenshot may very well be an ingame footage. See this screenshot they took:

All the effects & bubbles are here! And i read somewhere in the forum that UBI stated they were indeed ingame screenshots (not that you can really trust UBI on that part ). I for myself, thought in the first place it was heavily photoshoped but UBI also stated the game's rendering engine was using post-process filters to renders those effects wich does make sense. For those who don't know what post-processing is: after the 3d engine renders a frame, some filters very much like those of photoshop are applied to it. Most often, it is used to tweak colors, renders depth-of-field effects and so on. However, this overhaul atmosphere and most probably the lighting, may be pixel shader 3.0 dependent... So this will depend on your graphic card implementing it or not. i'm thinking of ATI users of those pre-xseries cards. But anyway since it's likely confirmed we'll get this looks i must say:

I don't get it...even in SH3, I have bubbles, rising up from my submerged Uboot.

Always had them....on a Radeon 9500Pro, 9800Pro, and now on my X850XT.

Default yes but...

sorry for my mistake in the previous post, i meant users of ATI pre-x1000 series (no implementation of pixel shader 3.0)...
As for the bubbles, yes there was bubbles rising up from the sub but not some on the overhaul surrounding of the sub. Plus those are blurred depending on depth-of-field to give a cinematic atmosphere. Well in fact, we should better reffers to them as particules floating around the ocean than bubbles... Light rays are also an addition over SH3 previous render engine. Anyway, the way light is fading off through the ocean is far far more convincing than in SH3. I suspect also the use of HDR, hence the needs of Pixel shader 3.0 to get full details.

I think its a combo.

But people have played the game, even fellow subsimmers (beta), but God knows they are refusing to share info! ()

Default i don't think so...

i don't think it's a combo, it could very well be pure ingame. Look at the sceenshot i've provide, there's no noticeable differences between them. And it was taken during the SH4 first look where neal or some other subsim.com fellows had been invited to take a look at a beta sh4. This is where that screenshot i provide was taken, to illustrate:

"After careful and deliberate calculations, I fired a couple of torpedoes. We switched to the outside camera to watch them speed to glory. I was all prepared to start bragging about my TDC skills when, as we watched them close on the target, Dan brought me up short by casually pointing out, "I noticed these are the training warheads on the torpedoes."
"It's a training warhead?" I sputtered, incredulous.
"Yah, see the yellow warhead--"

So as you can see, this IS a real ingame screenshot and there's no noticeable difference.

The bubbles in the Screenshot are not In-Game. This shot is from the November Press Kit of Silent Hunter 4, you can see that here:

http://www.marinesims.de/site/silent...r-4/sh4-3.html

So most of the screen is really in the game, including Post-Processing Filters. But there are no "bubbles" like that.

But you will see algae if you are on periscope depth (yes i actually played the game) swimming around you...also as the new sea floor with stones and botanical.

Something of this you can see here:

Default damn! too bad...

at last! someone who has played the game and is sharing infos about graphics lol!
Too bad they didn't implements bubbles as this should have been doable... anyway, glad to hear that all the other things seems there! So in light of your experience, except for the bubbles, does the game looks as beautifull as those screenshots?? especially the underwaters one? Is there depth-of-field? Is light fading through ocean as in those screenies? are there light rays and not just a horizontal fading of light through water as in SH3?
THanks anyway for sharing infos!

Well I'm starting to wonder if I can run this. I have a 2ghz AMD and 2gigs of RAM, both of which I think are decent, but I have an nVidia 6600 with 256m onboard RAM. It's a good card that runs graphic intensive games like Call of Duty 2 with ease, but it's certainly not the latest and greatest. Is this going to be good enough? The graphics card is what I'm a little concerned about. I ran SH3 like a champ with everything cranked up, but I have no idea if I can run all these new effects.

My problem is I am not a huge PC gamer, and this card is the best my motherboard supports. I'd hate to have to rebuild my machine just for one game. But I guess if I had to I would.

Is there a link anywhere to min/max requirements for this game?

Default arf!

same here lol
i have a x800 pro wich is "far" from being the latest!! it stills runs game like oblivion in almost full details except HDR quite decently but i'm planning to buy one of the last AGP cards so as not to rebuild a whole computer from scratch. Some 7600GS should give my computer a significant boost, since i have a 3ghz P4 FSB800 coupled with 2gig of ram. Well normally, it shouldn't really bottleneck my graphic card and will give me access to pixel shader 3.0

The bubbles could be part of that "movie mode" they have.

The bubbles are cool and all, but when I posted the image I was mostly impressed with the caustics on the sub and the lighting below the surface of the water. If they get those 2 things looking like that I'd be very happy. The bubbles would just be an added bonus for me.
