Did many enlisted men in the U-boat servicen receive this award or was it mostly restricted to officers?

Just wondering how many I should realistically award in SH3C.

144 were awarded to the uboat waffe

Throughout the entire war an estimated 7,300 RK were given out to all branches. In its official documentation it was supposed to be awarded "without distinction regarding rank" much like the Hero of the Soviet Union medal was. When you get into how many were awarded leaves, leaves w/swords and diamonds the numbers drop (overall) too the hundreds.

Unlike the Orden Pour le Mérite from WWI which was reserved largely for officers its not uncommon for enlisted soldiers to receive the RK.
