As I'm having poor frame rates in both NYGM and GWX because of:
- The 16km visibility mod in NYGM. - The many graphic updates in GWX. Can the solution be to copy the file that sets visibility from GWX to NYGM? If thats the case, is it the Sensors.dat or the scene.dat? I know these files determines other aspects as well but both supermods are trying to be realistic in this aspect, right? ![]()

Scene.dat.
Warning - Using GWX's scene.dat may have unexpected results in NYGM use at your own risk. ![]() EDIT - Why not use an 8km scene.dat?

Jonte,
I don't think the graphic updates slow frame rate; because of elimination of some high resolution graphics, I think they actually speed it up. Use the 8 Km (default), and don't activate the 16 Km mod and you should be ok. Also use the lite harbor mod.

If I understand you right, you use the NYGM mod but you will have the 8km vision of GWX.
Why dont you use the JSGME and put a 8km default atmosfere in it in NYGM. |

I believe it also depends on your computer sustem..... Graphics card, Memory and CPU.
Post what your system is Jonte, and myabe the guys can give you some recomendations to upgrade it, if you're able to do that.

I've tried GWX with 8km default and harbour lite but it still stutters, don't know why but I suspect the graphic updates! NYGM also stutters but I think it is my cpu that can't cope with the 16km visibility mod...
NYGM doesn't have an optional 8km visibility mod that's why I'm stealing the default scene.dat (8km visibility) from GWX! ![]() My computer is on the very low end but I could play stock SH3 with no problems in harbours and in bad weather... No I'm not able to update the computer but I wanna play too! ![]() I have not yet had the time to test this theory of mine, maybe tomorrow!

I disabled the Dang Seagulls and was amazed how much that helped in Harbor!
Seems to me the Bird controller and Bird Flock controller suck alot of CPU time. It is a hex edit fix though. And I can't guarantee compatability as it's a screwy way of doing it. But it works for me. |

![]() There's probably more ways that one to fix stuttering in SH3, you just have to figure them out! ![]()

There is one certain way for you to fix stuttering with your setup but this I fear, will involve upgrading most if not all,of your system. I do know your machine specs from other threads and trying to run NYGM, GWX, or any other of the current supermods, acceptably isn't going to be possible. Well, not without ripping the guts out of them, which I think would ruin the experience. That'd be a bit like going to the tailor; finding a "must-have" suit; not having quite enough money, so ordering the gear, minus one trouser leg, to stay within budget! Cost effective maybe, but hardly pretty. The problem with SH3 is that it loads the game world and contents on start up and this puts a strain on the whole system. The solution to the stutter can't just be tinkering with the graphics or audio. The basic SH3 is actually pretty undemanding in these areas, as you've found out by being able to run the stock game without problems. The enormous amount of extra stuff put in by the new supermods makes it a completely different ball-game though. Would it not be better to start with stock 1.4; add a lightish campaign...Harbour Traffic 1.47 maybe ; then season the lot to taste with some of the great mods that are out there now ? Alternatively, some of the earlier major mods ( RUB, IUB etc ) are easier on the system - or so I've heard. Maybe this could be the way for you to go to get a better game experience? Then again, if it is only the port stutter that irritates , you could try what I did with LSHIII......go out of port on map view. Didn't do that for long I can tell you!. ![]() Hope you do soon find something to suit you until the glorious day comes when you can upgrade and appreciate the game in all it's present glory. I've got there now, after about 2 years, and it really was worth the wait!! Cheers mate, Last edited by Cheapskate; 02-15-07 at 08:18 AM. |
