Default Being issued historical subs by name

At the crew management screen, it says in the top left "USS GATO" - that's not just a class, but a historical sub itself.

Now the question: Does this mean that we get actual subs with the correct historical names? Very cool feature if so.

And if that is true, then, if radio messages do mention real subs, will having 'that' sub prevent historical messages regarding that sub? I.e. if USS Sea-Weed (puff puff) went down historically at a certain time or performed some feat, but you are commanding it, you won't get a radio message detailing the feat you obviously didn't commit.

In the add-on radio messages for SH3, you could get U-48 or whatever, and then get messages from/to U-48 but it obviously not being YOUR U-48.

There were historical boats assigned in SHI; there's no reason not to in SH4. And if they aren't assigned and limited to the proper squadrons and home ports, I'm sure JScones will fix than in no time. Look at what SH3 Commander did for SH3 flotilla assignments!

I'm dragging this thread up from the grave because I was wondering this. Will we choose from historical boats or will we have the option to name our own?

I wonder.... hmmm... :hmm:

I found it was easy enough to re-name my U-Boat using the data files in SH3. Odds are it won't be difficult to do here.

This is exactly the reason I rather dislike using Actual historical ship names (particularly of ships lost during the conflict.).

Your in danger of provoking the gods of the thread grave by bringing up old thread's ... especially after a time zone change resulting from an early day light savings time change ... Which in effect could cause a reversal of time itself.

In this case it is 02-12-2007 01:40 PM which would cause us to wait another five weeks for the release of SH4 not to mention a way to go back to before the stock market fell and warn all of the investors.

Other than that I hope I can get a boat like the USS Trigger and save her from the doom and gloom of a watery grave.

Hope I can get the USS Silversides SS-236, I have visted that sub many times, the latest being last summer, it's very impressive i'm always amazed every time I go see it. I'v even managed to take a "sneak peak" in the conning tower. It sure does have a lot of history behind it too. Anyway here is a like to a website with some nice Pics and a little info on the Silversides http://www.glnmm.org/

The only Submarine I've ever been on is the Cobia in Manatowoc, Wisconsin; way back in 1993-4
