Personally I would get the IXB. I usually do not get far enough for the C model. I believe you can compare (kick the tires) in the museum when you load up the game. Take a look there. I always look at diving time and surface speed. That about it.

SH3 and GWX, the IXB has less fuel, 1 less torpedo, and same diving time as an IXC.
If one was to mod it to be historically correct then the IXB would have the same number of torpedo's, less fuel, and slightly faster diving time compared to an IXC. |

IXB Was the Most Succesfull Uboat Class.
"Janes Submarines War Beneath the Waves 1776 to the Present Day" By Robert Hutchinson. From the player perspective over the course of waiting for the type XXI you only have to buy it once and it lasts the whole war. U123 Was a IXB So lets not presume she didnt have the range to make it to america. she was first. economical transits are what matter most. The Lack of one torpedo is an acceptable compromise in view of the yeild of prestige by getting the boat early and keeping it late. MM ![]() |

speaking regarding prestige points it makes the most sense long term. invest in the well trained crew. MM |

Don't get me wrong, ingame i really like the IXB. I even gave it lot's of luvin in the tweak pack i run for GWX. What ultimatly turns me off to it though, is its fuel capcity as compared to an IXC.

I would say that your best strategy is to buy the IXB as soon as possible, the larger torpedoe load compared to the VII types will allow you to amass prestige points a whole lot quicker, regardless of what you plan to buy with them later on.
So: buy the IXB, save enough points to buy the IXC and spend any excess points that you earn while waiting for the IXC to become available on the crew (getting better crewmen) so that when the IXC becomes available you'll be good and ready for it, transfer your top notch crew to it ![]() |

how many times has this thread cropped up? Just get yourselves the XXI in 1940 and you'll have no problems, mate.

yea right
i tried the tutorial for getting a XXI in 1939 trust me its not like "oh well ive got the XXI now nothing can beat me" at one point you will think nothing can kill you, and that WILL get you killed:rotfl: |

IXC all the way. It's faster, has more range and carries more torpedoes that the IXB. For me it's not so much the torpedoes it carries, but the effective range it has. With a IXC you can go to almost any theater of operation (especially early in the war where there are no U-Tankers in the Atlantic). That allows you to attack softer targets and less heavily patroled areas.
