Default Reinstallation Problem

Hello everyone,

I reinstalled Silent Hunter for the fifth time now and I still can't get the update to work. I previously had JSGME and Spysat 1.4, which I removed before reinstalling the game.

When I execute the DVD 1.4b Patch (I have the DVD version), the operation cannot be completed due to either: (sometimes de_menu doesn't work, other times, it's MissionEngine that doesn't work, etc...)

- MissionEngine.dll, unknown version
- Campaign_RND.mis, unknown version
- de_menu.txt, unknown version

Could someone please help me to resolve this issue, I would appreciate it greatly.

Thank you in advance!

James

Hmmmm may be you have some residual files left over
Did you delete the SilentHunterIII folder completely ?
If not do so
If you get one of those messages ( usually the de_menu.txt ) then delete the de_menu.txt its talking about and carry on

Don't forget to delete the SH3 folder in your MyDocuments, when uninstalling the game.
And reboot...after uninstalling, after installing vanilla SH3, after applying the patch, after installing a supermod.

I suspect it is that nasty folder as stated above. Find it in MY DOCUMENTS labeled SH3...dump that puppy and start the installation over again. You have to get rid of the residue.

Thanks for your replies so far.

Now, the 1.4b Patch is saying that my MissionEngine.dll is invalid.

How would you recommend me to proceed?

Thanks again,
James

previously had you added anything.?

my first answer is best as far as I can tell, but it seems like you
have some how modified it or replaced it, but Mission engine dll.??

repeat dl of 1.4 patch and make sure you delete all described folders
and whether its a pain or not do the defrag. before reinstall and patch.
otherwise I am not sure other than either dvd corrupt, (wash it) or
patch is corrupt.

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, SH3 still does not work and I have followed your (Mush) instructions. I found that when I perform a re-install, there still seems to be some trace of Silent hunter III on my computer because the re-install does not start fresh; the installer asks me if I want to upgrade the game.

I have also deleted some of the entries in the Registry and all files/folders pertaining to SH3.

Try downloading Crap Cleaner(google it) A friend recomended it to me. If you uninstall anything it tracks down the residue and wipes it for you. Saves you trying to find all the left over files ect.

Then try a new install

Good luck matey
