Default Do I Need These Guys?

When I choose realistic crew numbers on SH3 Commander and then go to my barracks I have men I can still choose to fill out my sub. But when I do I have a total complement of 51, but that is just like stock. So to have the realistic number of crewmembers do I not get more men but just take what SH3 gives me?

I ask because I have seen conflicting numbers on how many guys are on a VIIC. Sometimes I have seen as low as 44 and then 51 in the stock game.

What is the normal (historical average) number of men aboard a VIIC?

Uboat.net gives 44-52

http://uboat.net/types/viic.htm

Suppose it depends on the amount of flak guns you have aboard
More guns need more crew

Max out your crew numbers...you'll be glad of the replacement options when fatigue sets in

Default maxing out

That is what I always do, I just wanted to be sure I was keeping within historical limits. Thanks!

Also....

If you are using NYGM, it is in the readme for NYGM 2.2 to select Standard Crew in SH-3 Commander. Hard to find but it is in there.

No quite the same thing I know, but I think I remember in Lothar-Günther Buchheim's book 'u-boat war' they fitted about 200 people in a VIIC whilst evacuating one of the French ports and heading to Norway. I think it was St Nazaire.:p
