My crew insist on having +500 classic tunes on their journey, does it slow down the rest of the games performance?

I've never had 500, but I've definitly had ~100. I've never noticed any change in the performance of the game.
So, short anwer-NO, I don't think having 500 songs will slow the performance at all. Just make sure that you're using sh3 commander to randomize the order of the tracks or you'll find yourself skipping through the bunch at the beginning. J |

Sounds from your gramaphone should have no detrimental impact on FPS

Sounds actually DO slow your game, if your machine is below recommended specs. My definitely is much below and when I try to use my gramophone, everything slows down. But if you use a good computer, you will probably never not ice any difference. On a really high-shelf one there can be no difference at all, as the RAM/processor is able to play music, run game and still has some free place to use.
I don't think there is any difference between having 500 or 5 pieces of music 'stored in gramophone' - at given moment only 1 piece is played, so it shouldn't make any difference.

I heard that MP3 files will sometimes try to loop on you as the OGG files do not attempt to loop. The looping will slow you sometimes. For the most part it is not an issue.
