Default New York/Norfolk

I just finished a patrol off the US coast, my patrol grid right near Norfolk, does the US shipping take a while to get going? I hardly got a sniff of anything and I spent two weeks around New York and Norfolk In calm seas the whole time. It's the first time I've really patrolled outside the US ports

March 1942, I do get a lot of American shipping, but mostly around Ireland Plus I frequently patrol around Halifax where I get more convoys than I can handle! Nothing around the US coast at the moment for me ... I've never gotten this far into a career either btw since I always started at 1939. Next patrol I'll see if it improves

If you're around Norfolk you can try sneaking into the harbour. There is a CVE and about 4 DDs and a few tankers to be sunk there Otherwise you can patrol the US coast but rememer that most US Ships stay within 30Km (I think) of the coast. Good Luck

Try sailing south along the coast in the shallows...you generally get more than your fair share of tankers

I attempted to sneek into New York around 1942 and a convoy was steaming out just as I was making my night time run in. There is shipping the closer you get. I also got a small two ship convoy on the same patrol. I was having some fun but had to run to a milch cow in the middle of nowhere to reload and go back for more!

I remember the coast of New Jersey, as well as the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay being pretty good to me in GW 1.1a. Haven't been there yet in GWX. I'd say try those areas

Chesapeake Bay????? What are you doing in my waters? This is my beloved fishing grounds! If I stand in my backyard and spit hard enough, I hit the bay waters! If you see a skiff crabbing, do not shoot it as it is probably me

It'd be awful hard to resist....I mean you see how those itty bitty schooners react when you torpedo them.... :rotfl:

I'd been sticking to the deep, my patrol grid was CA76 I think, right in the swallow south of Norfolk and I did encounter a lone Tanker which sank thanks to my Deck Gun I'll patrol around closer to the ports, may even try and sail into Norfolk and have a look around
