Default Hunting HMS Nelson - and I can't get near enough

This is sooo frustrating

Its May 1940 off the west coast of Ireland with orders to patrol near Gibraltor. Having chugged all around Scotland and west of Ireland from Wilhaesvan (sic) I encountered a convoy protected by 4 destroyers including the huge Nelson.

This was during daylight 2pm.

I managed to sink the 3 lighter destroyers but now I am stuck. I am 3.5km away from Nelson and he is doing 6 knots and zigzagging like there is no tomorrow.

When I surface he uses his big guns and I am forced to dive - yet at top speed dived I can only 6 knots. I cannot catch up.

Firing my torps is hit or miss literally due to his zigzagging.

I even tried to outpace by mapping direction of convoy but the minute a convoy boat spots me they steam away.....

I really want to sink her. Any suggestions ?

Well... you could always surround them.

I had nearly the same happen to me.

The solution is to move out of visual range and go to Flank. Perform regular hydrophone checks to make sure you're still on target and that the Nelson hasn't changed course.

Once you're in front you can then move in for the kill.

Good Hunting.

If your feeling lucky, fire a spread of 4 eels a couple of degrees apart

Drop back and punt. J/K drop back and do the end round on him. Get his direction and set yours as the same and shadow on the surface. High tail it to get infront of him. Use the sonar often to keep track. Once you are ahead submerge and wait for the kill to come to you!

I would do what danlisa suggests. Then you can position yourself in the BBs path and ambush him. Fire a salvo of 4 torpedoes a couple of degrees apart. The good thing with the ambush is that you can come really close to the target. If you fire the salvo at 1000m or less there is no way they will miss, but anything from 2-3000m should do it. Good Luck

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

Wait until dark. Keep shadowing til then. Then, strike with all your might!(dramatic enough for you?)

Yeah, just tap it after breaking off, keeping track of the convoy from a distance and waiting for it to arrive on your position Personally I've sunk HMS Nelson, I hit it six times, though afterwards I was told I only needed about 3 max, but then I encountered HMS Rodney, after putting 3 into it I kind of bottled because it didn't look like sinking, and hit it a forth time and it sank immediately

Anyway, even if you try a spread you may hit but will likely need to attack again later so it's best to be patient and keep hold of your Torpedo's Make sure you're hitting a steady, unassuming target Then sink the last escort and get the deck gun out for the turkey shoot

I would never have sunk the destroyer, just loosed 3 torpedos at the Nelson.
