Default Plane Spotting In GWX

Just a quick question about eye-balling those aircraft in GWX. I have asked this before but I don't think I evet got a straight yes/no answer. One of the updates in NYGM bumped up the distance that your crew could spot incomming aircraft on a clear day. I dont remember the exact distance but it was a great addition to the realism. Before I switch over to GWX I was wondering if this was done in GWX as well? It is important for me to know that my boys will realistically spot those incomming planes on a clear day. Thanks and I wont ask again!

You can spot aircraft in enough time to dive
On a clear day
The darker the day the harder they are to spot

If you can see aship at 8km IMHO the distance you can see something a fraction of the size travelling 50 times faster will be a lot less than that

Thats the reason aircraft were so succesfull against uboats

Over 250 sunk by aircraft alone plus another 37 sunk with a combo of aircraft and ships

Yes but on a clear day before the planes were using radar and clouds the u-boats could spot the planes very easily and have plenty of time to dive.I just dont want it to be simulated in the nick of time everytime. It becomes boring.

I always thought one of SH3s biggest faults (in this aspect) is that your Watch spot planes often long before they spot you! compare the size of a Uboat to that of an aircraft and you will realise that its way off from reality! In my opinion, your watch should only spot/report a plane sighting when you can see them your self from the bridge. So what ever the draw distance is for planes, that should be the about the same as the range of visual detection for the watch crew. fairs fair.
After you get 'aircraft spotted"' you are left with minutes before the planes begins its attack run, when it should be seconds. Evading planes in SH3 is more often than not, just too damn easy!

This is a matter of opinion. Make take on it has been stated elsewhere. In good weather, spotting a plane should leave the boat plenty of time to get below.

Well in my current patrol in June of 40, I was traveling in grid AM53 with my VIIB on a clear and calm morning. Maybe it was the fact that the planes were coming from the direction of the sun but with a good watch crew, I had a couple of close calls with aircraft. Actually during the last encounter, they were able to do some damage to my deck guns b4 I was completely submerged. I didn't notice what type of planes, but they were moving very fast of course.

If I had been in an IX boat, I could have sustained more damage since it takes them longer to dive, FYI.
