How do I exit the game?

Let's say I don't have a volume button on my earphones and I want to go back to Windows and change the volume on the desktop, how do I do so when I'm playing the game without having to exit through the main menu? Is there a specific key combination that lets me do so without crashing the game?

Alt - Tab has always worked for me...

Just make sure to pause your game before minimizing.
