Default Wow. I've Been Missing Out Big Time.

Last night I attacked my first convoy with out having god's eye mode on. I had to plot my own bearing lines, work out my speed and intercept course.

Wow, have I been missing out by having that nav map update on. I mean, all I got out of the convoy was a medium merchant (In GWX I might add) but I, the Kaleun, was responsible for those tons sinking to the bottom. It was so cool. All those little lines and angles and bearings and calculations on speed and distance (I had to plot a 90 degree intercept course) worked out perfectly.

Man, I've been missing out. I'm not saying I won't ever use the nav map updates again...but I really enjoyed proving to myself I could use the plotting tools to find and hit a convoy if I had to.

Totally cool.

Sounds good.

So what exactly do you lose when you turn Nav map updates off?

Yep I always play at 94% realism with the only thing using is the weapons officer assistance, turning god eye and nav map updates off is a big difference and having to wait out depth charges in your control room without being able to look outside is a great boost to realism.

I also have a program that SamWolf emailed me that takes away the tails of contacts on the map and makes your own just a dot so you have to realy put effort into your tracks and more work on your nav map.

so when you turn off nav map updates does that mean you can no longer see enemy ships and hydrophone contacts on the map?

Thats correct you have to do the plots yourself by guestimations if submerged if surfaced you can get range calculations and use your map tools to plot it and pencil it on your map. Its more realistic.

Firebird look around for samwolf and pm him, it is his program that he modded from the RUB one to work with GW 1.1 and he was nice enough to email it to me, it works fine with GWX.
