Theeeese is soo goood. The SH3 map is nicely scaled and very editable.. here we are.
Mission editor with a position of West15, North10. Sextant(V1.0) is on the button ![]() and so are the map longitudes and latitudes.. ![]() ![]() I just have to put the scale indicators on the map, maybe draw a nice sextant graphic.. and we're off to sea for testing ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Very nice. Now I only have to learn how to use a sextant and off I go
![]() Very good idea though. I really like the idea with the latitudes/longitudes in the map. Especially for the Pacific scenarios in GWX it could come in useful. Thanks |

That is excellent work!
![]() I'm certainly looking forward to using this - it will add that extra touch of realism to a fantastic sim! Px3000 ----- Forgot to add. I'm using SH3 1.4b, GWX + 23rd Dec updates and SH3 Commander 2.7 - will this be compatible? Thanks Last edited by Phoenix3000; 01-04-07 at 04:53 PM. |

Almost forgot.. I think the developers might have put in a 'fish-eye' type of visual effect as the sextant scaling had to be adjusted. If you look carefully at the Sextant pic above you'll notice that the 0-10 degree range is larger than the 20-40 degree range then increases again up to 60 degrees. I made some quick missions with all the latitude positions and found the final (v1) sextant to be fairly accurate, considering the amount of sub roll that the game has on a flat sea. I think that one will have to average out the reading to get a decent reading... which is probably the way it was The Sextant (screen view on 1024x768) has a 60 degree range with the following conditions. 1) The conning tower (F4) view has to have the sea level on the very bottom pixel of your screen. If not the scale changes and readings will be inaccurate. 2) If viewing above 60 Degrees adjust your view to max vertical and Zero now becomes 60 Degs. It's a condition that I cannot change, and found to be the simplest/effective for implementing the mod... but at sea, you have all the time in the world to take a reading...

Van, to make it easier, why not make it compatible with the JSGME mod installer? Besides, those that might not want to keep it, can easlily take it out of SHIII with mod installer.

As an example One of the 3 stars of Orion's belt lies virtually on the equator. This star could be used in a similar way as the North Pole star, when 'down south'. Once you have a reading your position will be (90 - reading) South You can choose other stars depending on what's easier to spot. I'll also provide a sunrise(set) and moonrise(set) almanac for the time period. You can also get your readings from this. ![]() |
