Docking the u-boat manually
Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I'm playing Silent hunter 3 for one year now. I always end a patrol using my Esc button, but I've read in the manual that u also can dock manually, and that it is possible to request an escort to the dock. How can you do this?

I never heard of the escort being called upon. You can go into the dock your self though. Just go in at 1-2 kts and prepare to hit full back to stop the tub

Have heard of the escort back in as well. I think that the default escort "out" ship in GWX, NYGM, GW 1.1a etc. simply runs a path out and back in in a loop. So if you wait at the point where he left you when you were leaving the port shortly therafter he should be reappearing again and you can follow him back to port.
All theory as I have never actually followed him back in. Chuck |

In GWX, I've heard that if you wait around outside the entrance to port, an escort will come out to meet you. Can't confirm this as I always use ESC to dock.
![]() Radioing for an escort sounds like one of those features that is in the manual but not included in the game.

Hi fabel, and welcome!
Just remember to have Bernard strapped to his bed while docking....He has ruined many of my "almost perfect" docking attempts lately.. ![]()

As I am one of the crazy guys who don't use the magic carpet ride to get back home, I confirm the escort is the one that takes you out in NYGM or GW/GWX and goes around in loop. So when nearing the point where it left you on the way out, just need to wait and it will come again. Then follow it to harbour, then drive your boat to any docking place of your choice (I like the one with the band and girls throwing roses at us). When stopped there (needs a little reverse, there are no brakes..

In Aces Of the Deep you radioed for an escort, which automatically ended your patrol. In Rubini's Harbour Traffic Mods (which are the basis for GW's and GWX's massive collections of ships to see) an escort is provided. He starts not far ahead of the u-boat's starting point and then runs in a continual loop. If you want to follow him in you need to mark the map at the point where you part company, and then return to that point when you get back to your home port. You may have to wait a while, as he always starts at the same point.
He won't lead you to the dock-only to his turnaround point in the harbor. Then you follow AVGWarhawk's description. I always approach at 1 knot and then cut my engines just before the edge of the dock. I usually coast to a full stop at just the right place that way.

Lol to Seth. But I came to this question, while I was going through the C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Sound\ files. You will find sentences like 'Abandon ship' and 'were docking sir' and 'we'll follow the escort sir'. But that's unfortunate not possible

I said a long time ago that even if you could kill Bernard, they would just make more.
