Default My dumb council

My first prediction has come true, yes it's PC Madness coming from my council. I got a letter in the post informing me as from next week residents must put there rubbish in the purple bin bags as supplied by the council, if anyone fails to do so there rubbish will not be collected. This is really going to upset the bin men as these bags are useless they split far to easy.

Just been talking to some of my neighbours about this and all of them think it's a blasted cheek, they can also see the bin men are going to be angry over this as these bags are useless for putting rubbish in. Let you all know what happens next week on rubbish collection day.

What, no wheelie-bin ? Most Councils across the UK have a wheelie-bin facility in place. In fact, most Councils will not take your refuse unless it is in a wheelie-bin ?!

Am I to understand this is because the binbags are black? If so, you should write a letter saying "Why isnt talcum powder beige" and "Why isnt whipped cream a neutral and non-ethnic colour?" :p

Wow, I can't imagine.

If any U.S. board of aldermen did this in the Mid-West, they would be tarred-and-feathered.

This kind of rubbish (pun intended) is the reason I believe that the less any legislative body accomplishes the better every citizen, regardless of the country, is better off.

Not here yet, but they tried a lode of different coloured recycling boxes for paper, card, plain bottles, brown bottles and so on. After about 2 or 3 months they dropped it to one box for paper and card.

Most likely the cost for there cheap and nasty bin bags comes out of my council tax.

The bin men are going to have a bad time with these bags, let you all know on Monday how they react.

What do you mean they won't collect?!

This is a gold mine right there! Set up your own damned waste collecting company and offer to collect any crap in any bag for cheaper than the council does. It all depends on where you'll dump it. I guess if the city dump won't take your trash, then you'd have to build your own landfill. Well, then things become a little greater in scale and a little more difficult.

Anyway, what an opportunity! If all of this isn't illegal, let me know, I'll be with my truck by your door next week. I'll dump the trash in the Euro-tunnel untill I can convince some Lords to grant me some land for the landfill.

That's really dangerous.

Sooner or later one of those poor blokes will get spiked by a syringe, or cut by some unhygenic implement.

I don't usually support industrial action, but in a matter like this I would support the Garbo's 100% if they told the council to stuff it. Safety should never be compromised.

hah, its alright. my council has issued blue bins (paper) and green bins (garden waste) to all the Private estates in the area. the council estates (mixed with private like my house) got just the blue bin. i've asked for a green bin and i've been told that i don't need one....
??
i also asked when brown bins would be coming in (plastic) and i got the response "whats a brown bin?"

as for your initial issue, whats the reason for the purple bags? is it some new council scheme of some kind? it can't be a PC thing seeing as every single bin bag you buy commercially is either black or white. (perhaps they want to spruce up the local tip? bit of colour?)

I think I can answer that as some of the neighboring towns have similar schemes. The reason for the purple bags is to distinguish resident trash from non resident trash. Unless I miss my guess the bags cost money, probably more than the normal cost of trash bags (and where do the profits from sales go?) and only residents can buy them right?

Some councils are wheelie bins but some are not dont forget you need specialy adapted lorries to accomadate for wheelie bins, as they need a bin lift.

Whats more i think it will anger the dust men if the rubbish keeps coming out of the bag if its anything like my crew theres going to alot of mess on the floor but naff all in the lorry.

Lorries with the bin lift cost another £8,000 more to buy and over 10 years will cost a good £50,000 in service and repair a straight throw in lorry doesnt need that extra maintinance.

the only way to solve the issue is double bag put the purple liner on the outside and a black one on the inside the bin men will thankyou.

But this could be a good opotunity to make money here when people say why aint you taken my bag it will be give us £3 and we will

I think they got other things on there plates.

I for one am going to do what Kap suggested, my rubbish has gone into a strong bin bag and that one has gone into the now split purple bag.
