Default GWX little BUG?

Hi mates,
1st of all, sorry 4 our poor English (my daughter helped me)!

This is the matter...
During a patrol, few Kms north of Alexandria, I met two costal vessels (schooners).
The very strange thing was that, while I didn't hear any sounds by the hydrophone, my sonarman reported to me the contacts of both the schooners.

I wonder if the schooners were sailing with or without engines;
in the 1st case I should have heard them, in the 2nd case my sonarman shouldn't have.

Tnx 4 coop.

Well to me it is logical that Sailling boats dont have/use engines, therefore they make no sound for your hydrophones to pick up, sounds to me like its not a bug - but a good detail the gwx team included.

Hi JU_88,
tnx 4 your answer.

I probably didn't speak well my mind.

I agree that the sailing boats don't have/use engines, therefore any sound can't be detected by hydrophone!

BUT...
why did my sonarman detect them?
He reported to me, while submerged, ship type (merchant), speed (8knts) and bearing.

I can't explain this last thing. :hmm::hmm::hmm:

Just to be honest, I couldn't find the way to avoid that problem, I've removed all the sound nodes from the sail ships, except the wake sound,that's why you can pick them on the hydro, but the sim doesn't take into account the actual sound from the ship to flag them as detected, apparently it uses a speed/distance calculation.

The sailing boat noise withouth engines could be easily masked by sea motion and waves

Of course. The problem is coding it in such a way that your sonarman cannot detect it. This is not as simple as it may seem.

Let's hope for a better sail ship system in SH4, with sail boats driving without sails when there's no wind, and with sails when there is wind, and hydrophones working correctly.

But yes, they're without engines, some or all of them. Sneaky little buggers.
