Default Crew Rosters

I was kind of wondering, for realism's sake, if a person was wanting to set up their VIIC or IX as accurately as possible, how would one do a crew loadout. For example, how many ratings would be specialized in what area, and so on.

Gordon Williamson's Wolf Pack book has some info on this, but I was wondering if anyone had tried to set up their boat specifically to attempt this, and if so, how did they assign their specialities and number of crewmen.

I would like to try this, and was hoping that somebody might have some good ideas on the topic.

Thanks!

www.uboataces.com/ref-crew.shtm

i got my info here , appearently it varied greatly as far as crew setup , but i go with 3 seaman to 2 petty officers and 4 officers. the 5th officer i find usless and just makes it harder to change shifts

1wo- helmsmen watchmen and whatever he was 2nd in command so this fits him well imo

2wo watchmen flak gunner in charge of deck crew

cheif engineer- obvious machinist repair maybe torpedomen this guy usually stays below deck

for the 4rth officer its up to you for me i like to make him a "disciplinary officer" and assign him taskmaster specialties torpedomen machinist medic he basiclly makes sure nobody is slacking

as far as petty officers go
1 helmsmen- this is for the cheif petty officer slot for navigator 2 is better for shift changeing.

2 machinist diesel and electir officers

3 torpedomen only because its what i start with
1 flak gunner
1 gunner
2 watchmen

the rest i typically make a medic/repair or whatever i need depending on the boat. typVII boats i usually go wit max petty officer and 24-26 seamen. makes crew juggleing easier as youll only have 1 or 2 crewmen sleeping with the engines while surfaced and 4-5 while submerged. and well you can read the rest on the link above.

i play 1x so i fill in for officers sometimes so you may want the 5th officer idk well andway blah blah im looking for good info on uboat crew setup so if anyone has anything else post a link please =)

Not to forget : 2 sailors or petty officers with radio qualification to man in turn the hydrophones and increased detection capability.
Supplied in the standard NYGM start crew...

You know, I never thought of doing this. I just went with what crew appeared on the boat when I started off. Do you mean change the crew settings with the SH3Commander? Might need to look at this, as I don't think I've got a qualified sonar/radio man.

Go to http://www.uboataces.com and navigate to that page using the menu bar on the left. The link is "U-boat Crew"

My watch officer is rated also in gunnery and flak.

Chief engineer is rated additionally in repair and torpedo. Helmsman are all single rated as helm. I've got two PO's rated in radio manning radio and sonar. Other PO's are specialists in torpedo (3-4), 1 as a co-watchman, 1 medic, 3 machinists, 2-3 repair.
