Well I got wind of what my Xmas present is going to be, its a laptop. Unsure of any of the specs on it or anything but as much as I hate to say it I don't really know what I will use it for.
I'm done with school so a laptop then would have been a godsend for the simple fact of helping with school work. However now I am just a gamer and I've never owned a laptop so my question is, does anyone use a laptop for SHIII? And if so, does it run well on yours? I know it will all depend on the specs of the machine but I know absolutly nothing about laptops and laptop graphic cards. Any info you guys have for me would be great. |

use the search function. There are numerous threads on this subject. I use one and it works fine

As long as it has an ATi or nVidia graphics chip and is recent (I'm guessing this is new) then you won't have a problem with SH3.

its the video that's gonna make or break this.
so try for non-onboard 128k and hope for something better than you need. |

I am running NYGM and GWX on a laptop (mostly with external CRT monitor) 1.8 G Intel Centrino, 512 RAM and 128 meg ATI video card.
No problemo, only going down to around 20 fps in harbours because of traffic but for me acceptable. Would suggest you get one wit 1024 Ram as it is mostly standard now. The good ones also have a 256 meg video (mine is almost 2 years old) I use FS Autostart for disabling unnecessary programs and services and defragging memory before launching (frees up average 100 k available ram). Also make a weekly upkeep of the system (cleaning of junk files and registry, disk defrag)

Thanks everyone.
Am I correct in assuming that video cards for laptops differ from those of desktops? i.e. a Geforce 6800 is for a desktop and wont fit into a laptop? However, a MB for a desktop means the same for a laptop? Sorry dumb questions I know but guess we have to have something to discuss while we wait for SHIV. ![]() |

yes and no depends upon how your laptop is designed some few actually accept standard video cards and even have enough extra juice to power them. |

Basically the mobile 6800 is slightly less powerful than the desktop version but uses the same technologies.
Measurements, like the MB in question, though, are the same. |

You should have no probs running SH3 on your laptop (I know many kaleuns who are using them) as long as the specs aren't outdated...which is highly unlikely if it's a new machine
