Ok , I need some help on DD evasion please guys.
First of all, I'm in a type VII-B , it's late 1939 , playing GWX ![]() I raided Dover and sank a couple of targets, night-time raid of course! Getting in was easy, but when I tried to leave, a load of DDs and Armed Trawlers started coming after me. I got pinged by a DD and that was pretty much the end of the story, yes I managed to avoid getting depth charged, but the next 2 hrs were spent trying to dodge all those stupid DDs (by then I had managed to inch a long way out of Dover and into the English channel). Trouble is, each time my noise lvl reaches "Green" , one of those morons use the Ping and locate me again , and this process just repeats itself. Eventually, I was fed up and surfaced the boat and was pwned after firing only 1 deck gun shell :P So, please tell me how to avoid these DDs??? Also, I didn't notice my VII-B had a Decoy launcher until I surfaced and my CE reported it being destroyed. Is BOLD available at this era?

Well, matey, the English channel is a no-go place. That place crawls with thingys that are bad for your boat. The only thing i could advice you to do, is to run at 1-2 knots (+silent running), and zig-zag alot. Go as deep as you can..
Kudos for going out in a blaze of glory, mate! ![]() ![]()

What Seth said, you really want to avoid the English Channel at all costs. It's crawling with warships and the depth makes it problematic to make a clean getaway. Once a DD starts hunting you it's also usually just a matter of time before more ships show up on the scene to make your life even more difficult.
As for the damage report saying decoy launcher destroyed I've seen that message more than once long before Bold is available. I think the damage report is just telling you that that area of the sub has taken a big old hit, so the area around where the decoy launcher was is trashed; and if you were later in the war it wouldn't work anymore. It's just one of those things really. |

I stay away from the English channel, but I am itching to raid an English east coast harbour. It is only October 1939, and I can't imagine there being much in the way of defences. What kind of targets will I find in a place like Lowestoft??
