Widescreen Question

Hi guys,

I'm playing SH3 with GWX (fantacstic update!!!!), but on a widescreen display, both the laptop and computer.

I spend more time playing SH3 GWX on the laptop with all graphic settings maxed out (it's a powerful system and I haven't had any problems at all in that respect).

Problem is, being widescreen some of the game screens are slightly stretched, namely the maps (pain when drawing attack charts), Periscope (oval not round) etc. etc.

Externally though, everything seems in proportion, it's just some of the more 'static' screens.

Anyone else have this problem and know of a fix?

As mentioned, it's SH3 1.4b, GWX, SH3 Commander 2.7.

Thanks all!

I use my laptop and most of the time an external CRT monitor. It can happen I play on the laptop screen which is 1280 x 800, but I find the distortion to be very acceptable (I would say my big dials from the 6 Sim feeling mod look a little oval but not much) and never had any problem with plotting on the map...

Hi,

I'll try the dials mod - if it works with GWX.

With the map, when drawing a 90-degree angle for example, to the eye it looks more like 120 degrees!

I know it's still accurate as it's been plotted with a protractor etc. but it would be nice if it was a true reflection.

Do you suffer distortion externally as well, ie ships etc.? They appear OK for me, but maybe I'm assuming they are.

Considering that many people now use widescreen monitors and laptops I thought this was something somebody may have raised before.

thanks all,

There is a fix for this. Search the forum for "wide screen" or "resolution"

Hi guys,

Thanks for the tip Letum, I've just found a link to the Community Manual pages and there is a DLL fix for the resolution issue:

http://www.communitymanuals.com/shii...lay_Resolution

Now, before I go ahead and try this with my Windows XP SP2 installation (there is more work to do for this version of Windows to get it running), has anyone tried it at all?? If so, was it successful?

I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a dual-core system, SH3 1.4b, GWX, SH3Commander 2.7 (with updates for GWX).

Thanks guys,

Bit more info for you guys....

Having read through the forums a bit more, I too am running SH3 GWX with max graphics on a Dell XPS laptop (512mb graphics, 2GB etc. etc.) bought recently.

So question is, what I see with the XPS is probably very high resolution anyway, so other users of XPS's - do I need to bother with the resolution fix??

Thanks again guys!

You only need the resolution fix for wide screen monitors.

You don't need the resolution fix for wide screen monitors if you can adjust your monitor for stretch to scale/fit. Mine does and it looks great. If you use the resolution fix you'll lose some gaming functions as explained in the aforementioned manual.
