I'd say beat them! When I was younger, I probably would have got away with anything if the threat of a beating wasn't hanging over my head!

Talk about a lack of parenting skills.

The kid is a problem and he's still getting a gameboy? Oh that's a truly great idea!

He has to earn it. Behave and be a good boy and you get a gameboy, don't behave and you can go find your own food. Get this little Emperor off his throne please.

Sounds like the mother is having issues with her son and this is a lesson that the police officers were willing to go along with. As far as the gameboy, as soon as I got home with the boy I would back over the thing with the car while he watched. This pampering crap needs to go. Whip his little behind...fear of physical retribution(spanking) always worked with me. This crap with letting them run wild is pure nonsense by any stretch of the imagination.

Better yet give it to some poor kid who wouldn't otherwise get one for Christmas.

My 12 year old step-son got caught stealing food multiple times at school. They warned him that he was breaking the law and the next time he attempted it, he would be arrested...needless to say, he got caught the next day. We talked and talked to him until we were blue in the face to no avail. I couldn't touch him because he went to someone else complaining about how I mistreat him if he didn't get what he wanted. Sad world we live in now that parents are in fear of being turned into the cops for discipline that we would've considered a slap on the wrist when we were their ages.

I would have thought the police had better things to do with there time.

As for the women she needs to learn not to pass the buck.

I don't think she was passing the buck. Some kids know no limits and realize they can get away with murder. This being said, they conduct themselves in this manner. Yes, some kids have no bounds or respect for their parents. Is some of the parents fault? Yes to a certain extent. Some of it is society and the great I'll take you to court and child abuse, etc etc. If some look at what some of these kids have done, no jury would ever convict the parent. Sometimes a good scare from those in authority is all it takes to straighten up their act.
