Default Ok... Ok.. I admit..IM HOOKED on TGW 1.1a (my first convoy story)

I FINALLY found my FIRST convoy (after pissing off a Hunt II DD by sinking his 2 Black Swan Firggate buddies a week earlier). And WOW! what a DIFFERENCE TGW 1.1a makes

Im currently in my career June 1943 (started career in stock vanilla SHIII). This convoy has about 20 ships with 2 DD, and 2 Friggate escorts...AND A Bouge Aircraft Carrier :p

So here is how it went ... First it took me 5 days to hunt this convoy down. Got a radio report of a convoy in the SW corner of Grid AM. For 5 days this wolf chased his prey. Stopping every 30 min to do a hydrophone check...I would hear them wayyyy off inthe distance, only to loose them after a few weak sound checks.

Then on Day FIVE near the shallows off the west coast of Ireland I do one of many hydro checks..... LOUD thumpings of many engines... VERY close. So I wait...

As the convoy draws closer I can tell I will be SMACK dab in the middle of them! Again I wait.... the lead escort passes just aft of me by about 900 meters. After about 5 min I hear a very sharp thumping of diesel engines... warship engines! I take a chance and poke my periscope out of the water.... Its the AIRCRAFT CARRIER....!!!!

OPEN TUBES 1-5..... Loose 2 at the carrier (about 400 m in front of me) 2 at that JUICY Large Cargo, and the Aft at that Tramp Steamer! TOREPEDOS LOS!!!!

CRASH DIVE>>>>>> make your depth 170m...

As we dive I hear a LOUD BOOM and CRACK! The Carriers back is broken...followed by another 2 BOOMS...the Large cargo is sinking.... then the final.... BOOM...the Tramp steamer's bulkheads collapse as the Fuel bunker is hit!

"80 Meters Sir"...reports the CE. I can hear the DD's above circling...trying to find me...BUT Im too smart for that...I am heading RIGHT under the convoy to use thier ownn engine noise to cover my escape.

All of a sudden I hear this LOUD SCREECH, and SCRAPE on my hull. "We are taking damage sir! WE are taking on Water Sir!".... WHAT the HELL!!!! We are 90m down!

So I send off the repair crew.... I take a look with the external Camera (I know...its a cheat...but I love to see the outside of my sub) and that CARRIER had its revenge. SHE was SINKING on top of me, taking me with her.

"KNUCKLE RIGHT CHIEF, FLANK SPEED, SURFACE THE BOAT!!!!"

The radio room and torpedo room were taking on water.... at flank speed with dive planes full up...we were slowly sinking.... "HURRY UP with the repairs Lars!!! or we will join enemy at the bottom!!"

About this time, due to the racket we were making...the escorts found us. But with all the convoy in the way they couldnt get into position to accurately DC us.

Lars reports "Flooding contained in Radio room, moving to torpedo"...which by now was about chest deep in water. We were still slowly sinking, 200m...... The sub was making noises that sounded like a rustly metal door, and popping like hot popcorn... she wouldnt hold long.

"Rudder Amidships..... LARS!! FIX the leaks now Or I SWEAR I will Blow the Balast tanks and use you as shield from Tommy's guns on the topside"... Lars reports "LEaks stopped ....most of the water is being pumped out now"

THe sub stopped its slow descent....240m ......

"CE...level us out here..... rig for silent running"......

We were safe.......

Grey Wolves.... you guys ROCK!!!!! The thrill of the hunt is AWESOME.... no longer can you plot a straight line from a radio contact and have the contact(s) show up.

You have to HUNT! Like the WOLVES that we are!

EXCELLENT JOB and I EAGERLY await GWX

It's amazing that that crappy piece of technology has stood the test of time and still gets sold and used.

I have one just to hear the grinding noise ... takes me back to when I used to work with puters 40+ hrs/wk in computer graphics during the 90s.

Overkill for SHIII + GW but very nice with some top quality components. Should get plenty of mileage out of it with new games. Loved the little convoy attack story by the way.

Thanks for the kind (and sarcastic words ).....

Oh this isnt just for SH3 (and SHIV)....its for Microsoft Flight Sim X (and I will bet $100 that it WONT run FS X with full details). My current rig CHOKES on MS FS X even with low details.

Oh and its for my favorite MMOG.... World War II Online.... if you like REALISM in games...this one ROCKS! Armor, Infantry, Airpower, Naval units.... its all there in a 1/4 scale world!
