GW Corruption

Suffered a program corruption with GW which resulted in losing all audio. After trouble shooting, I uninstalled SHIII with the intention of reloading and then reconfiguring with GW. Problem is that once I reinstalled SHIII I cannot load the mod1.3 upgrade prior to reloading GW. Get a failure alert which is C:\program files\ubisoft\silenthunterIII\data\menu\en_help.tx t: unknown version. Any ideas on what this means and how I can clear it to proceed ???????? Also when the GWX comes out does that mean we need to reload SHIII again or add on top of the first GW load.

Alright, here we go. Clean off all traces of SH3. This includes the file in MY DOCUMENTS that is labelled SH3. Clean up the registry of SH3. GET RID OF ALL TRACES. I cannot stress that enough. Make the clean install. Download the correct patch (there are 4 to choose from) and then install the GW mod. Again, all traces of the old game have to be gone!!!

In this case...you can just delete the help.txt files that the patcher is complaining about. Has worked in the past.....

Thanks for the info. I had already deleted the SH3 folder from my documents, but how do I deal with the registry. Have used search function to locate all the SH3 entries but it calls up none.
thanks

Welcome aboard kutterreddogg

Use a programme like 'regcleaner' or 'regmechanic'...there are loads to choose from (legally) at http://www.download.com/?tag=cnetfd.sb

My understanding is that there's nothing SHIII does to the registry that effects how the game runs. That's why you can copy and paste the main SHIII folder and all its contents several times without problems. As to why people C&P several times, that's so we can have a folder specific for whatever major supermods we have.

For instance, I have three folders: SHIII, The Grey Wolves and NYGM. I didn't do an install for each, just cut and pasted, so obviously there isn't any registry issues.

Danlisa has the answer to your woes. Just delete those files and you'll soon be smoothly sailing along!

Interesting on the registry. At any rate I also did a file search using SH3 as key word and found some other files. I do not know if this spoiled the patching but I deleted anyway. Patch loaded fine as well as GW. A program to clean the registry in my view is a good idea anyway. But hey, thats just me

Oh, I agree. I clean mine up at least once a month (defrag it too). It gets cluttered up as bad as the HD itself does.

I have two daughters and quite often I find things in the registry like Barbie games, Sponge Bob...you know girlie stuff that has to go sooner or later. Talk about demorlizing the crew with a showing of The Sponge Bob Movie with David Hasselhoff during the crews night off.... That goes over like a trap door in a canoe.......

Get a tool like JV16 Power tools and it will make sure that SpongeBob infections are cleaned up without having to go looking for them.

My crew is addicted to the Sims and hang around waiting for me to tell them to go to the toilet, have a wash, make dinner, eat dinner, read a book etc etc etc...

Daughters and u-Boats don't mix! I got 3. Daughters that is. I've got a lot more u-Boats than that.
