Default U.K. Drivers watch out!

I bet this one is going to get on your goat.

Now pay-as-you-go road taxes are in prospect

Congestion charge, pay as you go road charge, car tax, MOT, and car insurance. Did I miss anything?

If road charging was introduced, the government would be able to examine the option of whether it could raise enough revenue to replace fuel duty and the car tax disc.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
As if any government will do that ...least of all this one.

I think it's time I gave everything I own and every penny of the money I earn to the government, this includes the clothes off my back, in the vain hope that they will be satisfied with this and not try derive revenue from or steal/extract the number of days I am alive on this earth so they can transfer this unused time to one of their fat cat backhander buddies.

Yes, but a top of the line car in the UK can do 60 miles per gallon.

I've no problem with congestion charging in general. But why do I get the impression that there will not be the investment in public transport to off set all this.

So, can anyone tell me what is the point of the road tax licence? And what do they do with £40 billion per year they get from it?

KevinB, it appears you ask too many questions...
A man in a black suit and dark glasses will be knocking on your door to take you away for re-education very soon. :rotfl:

Reminds me of those UFO stories from the 50's and 60's that if a somone spotted a UFO they were visited by three men in black with dark glasses and very shiny if out of date Cadillac. They were threatened and told to shut up.

A lot of people to tell me to UFO.

Many years ago I saw a cartoon (kind of US specific, but here goes): A man in his pajamas answers the door, and sees tanks surrounding his house, helicopters flying overhead, many soldiers in full battle gear pointing guns at him. On the porch facing him are two men in black trenchcoats. One of them holds up a badge and says "We understand you tore that little tag off your matress..."
