Default Newbie question

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here. I live in Jakarta, Indonesia and I want to buy Silent hunter 3.
I played Silent hunter in the past, I got the game from home of the underdogs when silent hunter was still available for download from that site, about 5 or 6 years ago. I really love that game. But I lost it when my computer crashed.

When I learn about silent hunter 3, I want to buy it.

I have a friend in London who'll come to Indonesia soon and I'd like to ask him to bring the game for me (I'll purchase the game and ship it to his address). My question is about SF. I read about SF in the archives and came to a conclusion that it causes problem. Does a "new" SH3 still have SF in it?

Also, should I buy it from amazon.co.uk or directly from Ubisoft?

Thanks in advance,

Hi and welcome to the forums.

As far as i know there is this SF thing still in the game.

I had some minor problem whit it my self cuz my old discdrive couldnt read it.

I mailed the SF and whit in 30 minutes i get respons from them that fixed my problem. I dunno if they will respond that fast nowadays if you get some problem whit it.

But i later on bought a new discdrive and ive never had that reading problem again whit it.

I dont know where you should buy the game from. But advice is the most reliable store that can deliver it in time and also the cheapest one.

Hello and welcome to SubSim

I know that a lot of people had problems with Starforce, but I never had one so far. So unfortunatelly I cannot help you on that. The topic is a bit 'sencitive' and reaches the forum rules to their limit, so let's leave it here as I don't want to get the moderators involved. As far as buying SH3 I guess you can buy it on-line if you have a credit card. There are a couple of on-line shops like amazon etc that have it. Check out the prices and go for the cheaper one. Once you have SH3 make sure you patch it up to 1.4 version to sort out some of the bugs in the original game. Once you do this you can try any of the mods and supermods like NYGM, Grey Wolves (GW) and the pending GWX (Grey Wolves Expansion). These supermods do take the game to a totally different level. After you have a shot at them you will never play the stock game again

Good Luck

SF was never an issue on two computers I have had the game on. If you do install the CD game with SF, I believe there is a removal tool for SF. I do not know what the link is unfortunately.

Don't let SF put you off. I bought SHIII soon after it came out and left it on the shelf for more than a year because of problems people were having with SF put me off installing it. Eventually I decided to install it and haven't regretted it, its a great game and SF hasn't messed up my PC. Don't get me wrong, SF is a pain because you have to play the game with the DVD in the drive and it does slow down the overall loading process, but there are ways round this you just have to find them out for yourself.

Welcome aboard xlbob

There is a SF removal tool available which I have used. I believe Gizzmoe (the site mod has posted in the past). If I am wrong then please accept my apologies (to you both) but if I'm right then I'm sure he'll post a link here in due course when he reads your post.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies.
I'll get it from Ubisoft, and hopefully soon I can join the conversations here :-)
Take care,
