Sinking! but to the desktop!

Hi all,

I desperatly need your collective help, ive recently built a new rig, with which im vary happy with, but there is one problem i cant solve and this is the CTDs that i get when using SH3.
I currantly run the GWs mod (although i did not apply the patches to the vanilla i was under the impression that you did not need too) My problem is i start a career with SH3 commander and all is fine untill i torpedo somthing as soon as this happens and i get what ever ive shot at too actualy sink after a few mins and while the boat/ship is sinking the game minimises and throws me to the desk top!!!

i have confurmed this crashing no less than 4 times with new and old saves, this seems to only happen with a a career?

Please help.
