Hi, I just acquired Silent Hunter 3 recently...I was looking for something on the lines of "Aces of the Deep" and boy, I'm glad I wasn't disappointed. Good to see that there's such an active community supporting this great game, esp. the GreyWolves mod, I love that one.
Now, it is time for me to brag (of course i'm the braggart n00b, so sue me) : Patrol 1 : Uneventful (just like my first one in Aces of the Deep) , didn't sink a ship, and almost accidently torpedoed a neutral norwegian (thank god it missed ![]() (next one is sorta big , pardon me, im sure u've had better exploits than this one, esp. one of u kaleuns who saved the bismarck...nice story) Patrol 2 : Assigned a patrol area right next to Scapa Flow. Decided to prove Gunther prien wasn't the only big fish. I attempted to sneak in at night, detected by a destroyer (of course I was surfaced, wat kind of nutcase would do that ![]() ![]() Now, I came to my senses and went in submerged towards scapa flow, I picked up a C2 Merchant on the way (luckily only one torp to kill him). Now, comes the interesting part... although on my nav map, there was a region that appeared to be watery...and I was TC'ing my way to glory all the while....I noticed my sub had come to a standstill ![]() ![]() Usin the external view, I manually steered my way out of the mess, and I found a berthed tribal destroyer (i was looking for a King George actually). Torpedoed him, and he refused to sink, cause the sea level was too low (oh well, atleast my NA reported she's going down ![]() Patrol 3 : (Since patrol 2 bored you, i shall keep this short) 1 tramp trawler, 1 Large cargo and 1 large merchant. Again, the large cargo refused to sink, cause the sea lvl was sort of low ( I was somewhere off dover , and he took 3 of my torpedoes ![]() (But I thought the spot under the engine was the weak one? Pls clarify this for me ppl) Anyway, 17000 tonnage in that patrol (not bad for a type II-A I guess ![]() Well, it's been an interesting 1939 so far, and I look forward to your expert advice, so I can single handedly do a Pearl Harbour using a sub :rotfl:. P.S : I noticed that the type II sub is true to its name (i.e a coastal sub), cos it didn't go too far on my first patrol when i was at "Ahead Standard" speed (or watever u call it, middle position of the telegraph). I managed to stretch the range by goin at Ahead 3rd in Patrol 2 (but the trip was booooring, even with TC). So, pls tell me, wat should be the optimum cruisin speed for such a tiny evil sub? |

Hi and welcome
Ahead 1/3 is about the best speed to prolong your fuel If you use the Kiel canal a lot you may want to get yourself SH3commander - if you havent already - apart from loads of cool stuff its easy to change the T\C close to land so you can whip through a bit faster Keep those tonnages and up and uncle Karl mught let you buy a shiny new type 7 boat soon ![]() |
