Best Smoke Available??

Hi guys,

Just a quick question - having re-installed SH3 with GW1.1a (+SH3 Commander) yesterday after the disastrous attempt at adding additional ships I thought I might take it easy and just update the smoke for now instead - and see if the system remains stable.

Thing is, having seen so many screenshots and footer graphics containing different versions of smoke I have to ask - Which smoke mod looks the most realistic and where can I get it please??

Also, installing it - as I mentioned I'm using GW1.1a with SH3 Commander - how is it best to install this mod - manually or through another app?

Lastly, I also downloaded "Wazoo's Draggable Nomograph Mod" - this is certainly something I want to use, but means directly editing one of the files in the system - is that safe to do with GW1.1a?

Hope you can advise.

Thanks

Hello

are you using JSGME????? If you are you don't need to change anything in the game files, JSGME does it for you. As far as the smoke I think GW has already the high resolution smoke (it's the best one in my opinion)

Thanks for the reply,

I did have JSGME prior to the re-installation. I wasn't sure if it was compatible with GW so didn't install it this time.

As for the nomograph mod it only extracts a file and then tells you to edit another - will JSGME handle that ok?

Thanks

The best smoke available are Cuban cigars. GW has the improved smoke mod.

OK now I understand your problem.

It is better to use JSGME as it doesn't alter the game files. That way if you don't like the mods you install you disable them and you can continue your game without having to uninstall it. Have a look at this tutorial http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1009484

It's for Rome Total Realism but it doesn't really matter. It's the same principle.

For the mod you're talking about JSGME probably won't handle it so you better back up the original file and then use it.

My suggestion would be though to uninstall SH3/GW, reinstall SH3 patch it to 1.4 and then install GW via JSGME. Trust me it would save you a lot of trouble with mods. If you need more detailed help let me know

Thanks for the info melnibonian,

I'll uninstall it again tonight/tomorrow and follow your suggestion.

One last thing - I've installed SH3 Commander but not used it yet, and today I read about a mod called SH3GEN - can someone briefly explain the benefits or disadvantages of using these? - Can they be used together or are they rival apps etc.?

What are your views on them?

Thanks again,

SH3Gen is an 'inteligence' program that gives you information on the position and the status of the enemy shipping. Have a look at this it might be usefull http://www.global-explorer.de/

SH3Commander allows you to edit your crew, submarine details and patrol grid. You can promote your crew and hand over awards as well.

Now SH3 Commander and SH3Gen are totally stand alone programs and do not interact with SH3 (and GW, NYGM etc) you can use them without fear.

I use both SH3Commander and SH3Gen and I think they both are a must. Try them and see for yourself of course as this is just an opinion.

I have tried all (I think) of the smoke mods that have been released post GW, and I cant say any of them look better than the one in GW.
