Default NYGM 2.2 PT Boat Questions

First, I'd like to express once more that NYGM 2.2 is fantastic. I found myself wondering why my shoulders were aching - I discovered that it was from hunching up in anxiety while being pursued by escorts! Talk about immersion....

Ok, so back to the topic at hand. I've been playing with PT Boats. They're dangerous little buggers these days - fast, maneuverable, and those machine guns must be using AP shells because they'll tear up a U-Boat in no time if you let them get in close (I don't, thanks to "skeet" practice with the 37mm ). Some questions though:

1. Do they ever fire their torpedoes? I seem to recall a note that they would, but I haven't seen a single launch despite several encounters, including one in which I kept the boat motionless just to test them.

2. How many depth charges do they really carry? I see four ash cans on the stern, but I could swear that I've counted 6-8 wabos in the water from a single PT Boat.

3. Who is driving the PT Boat? I see all the weapon stations manned, but no one is at the helm!

Thanks!

1. There is a mod by sergbuto that created virtual torpedoes.

2. There are 2 reloads, which is 12 in total

3. A midget :rotfl:

Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks, Der Teddy Bar! You're always quick to answer questions and lend a smile.

(12 depth charges!?!? Wow! I need to show those little boogers more respect!)

Point #2 leads me to disagree: PT boats late in the war carried 4 depth charges in place of the stern tubes. Where would they keep reloads? The main purpose was to discourage destroyers from chasing them.

They're too fast for the deck gun, at least in my experience. If you're able to accomplish this, you have better reflexes than I do.

I have also learned to keep as few crew members as possible on deck when facing PT Boats, as those machine guns can be brutal on exposed personnel.

I generally use the 37mm, as it only takes a few hits to neutralize them, and the increased magnification is great for watching the enemy crewmen pinwheeling through the air when you hit something explosive. I only use the 20mm if they get in very close, when I'll trade off power for rate of fire.

If you haven't tried hitting them with the 37mm, I highly recommend it. It's great fun!
