Default Did anybody see last night...

"The Kings of Sim" on one of the discovery channels?
Various chaps and the extent to which they take their flight sim hobby (though I use the word 'hobby' reservedly). For the ultimate sim experience some of these guys were chopping off the cockpit of a boeing 737 and wiring it up to a home cinema system and several pc's... all the proper flight controls and everything, using some funky access card which enables them to connect and activate up to 500 knobs and switches. Crazy stuff.

Right, all I need now is the control room of a VIIC Uboat in my back garden and I'll be sorted a few knobs and dials and we'll be well under way. Lol, all I need now to be like thosae guys is a long-suffering wifey to bring me tea and biscuits and to issue ultimatums when I'm considering that decommisioned submarine hull on ebay; a mere snip at £100,000 :rotfl:seriously, one of these sim guys was looking at a retired F18 to have in his back yard to connect up to his simulation kit $45,000... whilst he was browsing he hears his wifes voice from over his shoulder "No way, absolutely not."
Well there's a supprise

If I were her, I would tell my husband that he can have his $45K backyard toy, provided we add the realism of kamikaze pilot's cockpits being permanently bolted closed from the outside.

yeah ive always thought about the idea of a home made persicope in front of my pc when playing SH3 - its always hanging above then when submerged i pull the scope down to monitor level which then does the same moves as if moving the mouse. really the scope wouldn't have to be identical to a real scope just a lookalike with handles target cross & wires connected to the usb port which enable the fire and lock target buttons on the handles.:hmm: Its possible.

I went to Discovery.com and attempted a search for the show...no joy. Does anyone know how to get info on it? Yes, I did google it.

Wouldn't it have been simpler to puchase a used simulator cockpit and rig that up? That way the cockpit windows would already be screens.

Yes Steve, so simple. Would you like one? That's 3 million with 10% of discount for you, cash please.

Probably not. The big ones often use projectors, and those are rather expensive. Also, there probably are more old aircraft cockpits available than old simulators.

You're both right, of course. I did say "simpler", not "better".
